Lasik

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I'm definitely doing this.

Prices is Gauteng vary from R14K to R35K. They all using different machines.
I think I'm going to make a trip to Dbn and have it done there.

You can go for a free assessment of your eyes at Just Lasik (www.justlasik.co.za) in Pietermaritzburg or Durban (same ophthalmologist, Dr Anderson) to see if they're suitable for the procedure. They use the latest advanced equipment at Umhlanga Medical Center. Total cost of surgery was R17 900.

Cool. Thats just what I'll do.

Did they do a custom ablation using wavefront tech?

This is their standard procedure:
Wavefront Optimised™ LASIK
This is a specific treatment using wavefront technology to create an ablation pattern (laser reshaping) that takes into account the curvature of your cornea. The end result is a better shaped cornea that gives better quality vision with much less halos and glare and minimised aberrations.

More info on their site:

Everything else you need to know is also on their site.

I had mine done today in DBN.
I could see the difference as soon as I walked out of the operating theater. It's amazing.

That's great! With Dr Anderson?
Had my eyes tested again this week and I now have 20/20+ vision!

Now get off the PC and go sleep, your eyes need rest... :)

Without going through the whole thread - do medical aid cover part of it at all?
Is it still between R10k-R15k per eye?

Depends on your medical aid. More like R15-30k for BOTH eyes depending on where you go.

Mine was R17 000 for both eyes and Spectramed didn't cover it.
I think Discovery and Bestmed cover it.

This is the best thing I've ever done or myself. My sight is better than 20/20 and my night vision is awesome.
No starbursts or halos. I had that before doing it.

I did it with Dr Anderson in DBN.

Is it like a 5 min once off procedure?
How bad do your eyes need to be?

The actual laser takes less than 5 sec per eye.
My eyes were -1.5 with a bit of astigmatism.

Thanks ...

I'm not sure + or 1 ... but I know my figure is 1.5 too

Do you have Myopia (nearsightedness/shortsightedness) - or Hyperopia (farsightedness/longsightedness) +?

Takes in total 15 min (prepping etc). Beforehand you get drops in the eyes and have to wait for those to set in as well. All in all about an hour if things are slowish. Had a friend wait for me to drive me home after.

Your eyes can be up to a "6" before they can't fix it with lasik I think. I had myopia +1.1 in one eye and +1.5 in the other (either + or -, can't remember which)

I am going to Dr Moosa, Durban Eye Laser Clinic. He just recently got the latest and greatest technology apparently. Only 3 in the country.

My wife is -5 in both eyes so she is definitely doing it. Mine is -1.5 and -2 and i thought it isn't bad enough to do it.

But after reading your post, I think I have made up my mind to do it. thanks...
