latency insane (good!)

try that in a raid or battle ground ;)

lag is not so bad when you are dead and about alone :D

im comparing apples with apples mate... 3 weeks ago I was also DEAD and also ALONE and it was around 350

My latency this weekend is hoping between 280-1200 for some reason ^_^

I always get below 300ms in 25man raids with my Axxess Unshaped account :>

I'd try Axxes us but atm I'm sitting with anything between 226ms-360ms in raids so can't really complain and If it aint broke don't fix it:p

hmm..that looks pretty good. i have never had anything below 450ms, and that is very seldom. on mweb unshaped. maybe worth a try.
btw, for my latency, it makes hardly a difference between being dead and alone, or in a 25man raid.

I get around 270ms average on Afrihost with that patch :)
Minimum was: 220ms
Maximum was: 350ms

Afrihost with patch 577ms
Afrihost without patch 762ms

AFAIK Afrihost & Axxess goes through IS which does SAT3 (not sure if they're on Seacom yet, I doubt it)

WebAfrica without patch 370ms
WebAfrica with patch 210ms

WA = Shaped account tested 10am (now)
Afrihost = Shaped account tested 10am (now)

Running on 180 / 190 ms 99% of the time... on normal shaped account :D
Highest it goes, is 200 MS, but it drops back down again. Its pretty consistent and stable in staying around the 190 / 180 ms range.

But its kinda a mission to get it where it is now. VPN tunnels, SSH Proxies local peer ---> international peering .... was quite a job to set it up.

Raiding now is NOTHING like it use to be in the past... I dont know how I managed to play at 400 MS a year back. DPS goes up quite a bit if you can maintain a tight rotation with minimal lag. I just cant imagine what it would be like to raid at 30 MS....

Have a few screenshots from back in the days when we did ol Anube / TOC.

You also running through Mark`s proxy ?

Yes and no... I actually peer with my server via VPN @ IS and the server at IS peers to his box in EU. Only difference is, we compress our traffic via our peering box before it reaches his EU box. Level 9 compression.
Keep the bursts local rather than having to worry about DC's when there is heavy burst AOE syncing involved.

Now that just sounds like way too much mission and stuff that can go wrong if you ask me ... its just a game afterall :P
I only started playing yesterday again after taking about a 4-5 month break .

Naaah its more fun getting it to work than you would imagine.. remember this is my line of work... so fiddling with network protocols, and servers is what I do everyday. More of a challenge to try and squeeze every millisecond off and run at the utmost best theoretical limit. I love technology :D

I love technology that works , not technology that you have to make work or technology that makes you work :P

Well it does work... you can be content at raiding / playing at 350 / 400 ms, or if you want to fiddle and mess with it, you can get it lower.

The same goes for the registry patch... you can play with or without it... totally up to you :)

My point is , if we can do it home . Why cant our isp do it ?
This optimisation should be done at ISP level .
Anyways I dont knowtice my latency is always fine after 5 beers :P

so, ive done the leatrix patch, the registry hack, and average about 400ms - 500ms during 25man raids (using vodacom hsdpa). dont use most addons anymore, and Ive disabled the combat log. is there anything else I can do? doing about 7k dps on mai kittay atm, but I know it can be 8k plus. any network settings I can change, or something else? already had the modem unrestricted by vodacon (and a mission that was). need to do this as Im in a high end raiding guild, and wanna do better than I am already (theres a dk in my guild that can pull 13k on certain fights and I wanna get up there too)

adding to that, waiting for the prices to drop and the new sea-cables to become operational before having an adsl line installed
