Latency on HSDPA/3G

I'm getting the same bad latency on my desktop. This is really confusing.

The same problem, on different PC's, over different networks and with different modems. I'm stumped. :(

Well I'm in the Brits district of North-west. I have been playing WoW for over 2 years now on both Vodacom and Mtn. At first it was slow 1700ms latency but as the years moved on the Network in the area improved and so did the latency. Most of 2008 I was raiding 25 man In TBC with no problem averaging 600-800 ms.

Then Mid October My lag started to spike, got randomly DC. By the end of TBC my raiding was over, not due to the raid alliance stopping but me kept getting DC at the start of most fights and not even able to re-connect to either Vodacom or MTN. I phoned them almost daily with no results to this day and the network has gotten worse.

Now during my December leave I had more time and The new Wrath to explore. Getting both my Shaman and a new death knight up to 80 would have been a lot easier, and more fun, if it wasn't for my crappy connections. During the day 10-17:00 it was fine-ish, running between 600-900ms, few lag spike and lag outs but not to bad. After 17:00 it was a whole new ball game. Lag slowly kept getting bigger ,900, 1100, 1900, 2200,till about 20:00 then I got DC, not just from the game but the entire network. This lasted till about 23:00 or so. At that time most of our raids would have been are where closer to finish. On a side note lag a 4 am is great 450-600 max. What joy to play.

I have order a new Adsl from Axxess at the start of December 2008, and hoped it would be up and running during my leave, but no luck. In fact I'm still waiting almost 8 weeks later and still no line. According to Axxess the order has gone through but Telecom is giving us old run around of "There are no ports available at this time."

Till that is sorted I will struggle through the nightmare lag of Mtn and Vodacom, lose of raid and personal rep.

Hmm I had vodacom HSDPA what a bunch of ****, bout 3 months into the contract I applied for ADSL. never looked back. In fact I just yesterday applied to upgrade my line to 4mb (not that it will make much difference in wow) for only R 389 pm. woot.

Been running 3G for about a year now, and had no problems raiding pvping etc, latency was 400 - 600 Max absolute joy to play, up until October last year, it just went down and has been pathetic ever since. surely there must be some sort of explanation for this?

The theory we've come up with about that is that the new expansion is probably the cause of the increased latencies.

My problem seems to be different, because even when I ping MYBB I get an average time of over 600ms and Google is over 1100ms. :o

I'm now waiting for me ADSL line to be finalized, they told me it's in the validation stage, what ever that means :o

i see they are only in beta testing though.. how did you manage to log in?

Tried it. seems like its still the same slow issues.

Oh well the little 3g signal on my phone should rather say "dial up" because thats what its acting like, even worse actually.

You sure you doing it right ?

Run putty, open socks, click the WoW icon you uploaded from your wow directory and boom :)

Just making sure, because I'm very happy with Gamemax :o

Well i am just using telkom as provider on 4mb line unshaped
had better latency yesterday since patch.Usually get 350-550
had 280-350.

Note not using xp hacks or any funny stuff.

My friends been using vadocom and mtn hsdpa awitching between the 2 and hes really sick of 3g/hsdpa getting bad ping lately. He played on it for year now.

Dont even see him online cause of lag lately all i see is advers of how good hsdpa is expanding more people getting it was time when i just started wow on 3g was great 380-650 ping seems like soon they overloading 3 g networks
cause i still got my 3g/hasdpa modem and the ping are crap why i got adsl.

You should also tell people your working for mtn and got uncapped and probably much better connection than normal guy on 3g.

If you play games stay away from 3g/hsdpa only if you got no other options.
Chancs that youll get ping below 700ms is REALLY low.
Specially lately.

After 12 at night i can play wow with 300 - 500 max latency, thats a joy
but whats the use of that? and if i could get adsl in the area i am in i would of long time ago. So 3G is the only thing i have for internet.

hey i also got e272 modem the other day and my wow ping did drop to about 500-600 in the morning and same for late night, but raiding time it goes insane and also i dced allot i did do naxx10 the other day fine, but cant do 25 man naxx and its just if im lucky i dont dc in 10 mAn.im using vodacom and get a good to very good signal,if somebody can help plz i did download the program the one of the users written and going to try gamemax now :)

I've quickly browsed through the posts I'm currently using Vodacom HSDPA prepaid at full signal strength and here's my 2c.

Firstly it mainly depends on the server population if there's little population i get around 500 - 700 but around 6 at night the latency goes up a lot here by 7 my latency ranges from 800 - 1200ms and after 8 it goes from 1200 - 2000ms. If I visit a city like Stormwind i actually get disconnected. This is every nights crap I haven't been able to do much dungeons or battle grounds only on weekends when the population is medium.
Some how I highly doubt it will get better soon, this has been going on a long time. I've even go as far as buying an additional aerial that cost about a grand to improve signal quality.

As a result I've swallowed my pride and ordered a 384k ADSL line my best friend and girlfriend use the same line and even at full population their lag ranges from 600 - 800 with inevitable spikes every now and then (Which happens no matter what line u have)
So in my opinion ADSL is way better for gaming and its costing me R350 a month adsl line, Telephone line and 1 gig cap all inclusive. where a 2 gig data bundle cost me R289.

Not a major difference in price and seeing that you're PAYING to play wow might as well fork out a little bit more and enjoy the game the way its meant to be played.

3G/Edge/HSDPA - do what you want you going to have a crap latency.

ya wish my mom will get adsl she just always says no,so know i work and pay for this crap, until im done with college and then get me adsl

Well last night was quite interesting, since the new patch 3.0.8.9506 my latency was down by a substantial amount. I'm talking about 200-400ms would be interesting to see how this goes

I got myself the E270 package, round bout the 26th December, and i had lower latecy than my one buddy one ADSL, weird, i know. But ever since exactly 2 weeks ago, my connection started to crap out, dc, very unstable. Log on and i have like 300ms latency, next moment its 1500ms.

This is the weirdest thing, with EDGE i get a more stable connection with about 800-1500ms, so i find myself playing with EDGE more. I tried Gamemax, great, sub 400ms but i dont know if il get DC with it too. if i do, that means, correct me if im wrong, that i have to re-log into gamemax, as i had 100% packet loss, which would really suck.
