PS: Unfortunately my support on this forum has come to an end and I won't be updating these post any more. If a mod can take over and continue with the updates, please do so. I tried to do something here for SA blackberry users but can't achieved what I wanted to. Started my own support forums/website, if you want the address pm me please. Not sure if mods will allow me to post the address here.

wolfie, once you have OS5 (leaked) and they release 5.x.xx.328 will an OTA update get this for you? Or do you need to re-download it again, use Desktop Manager etc etc

I would suggest rather redownload it as we all know what wireless connections are likein SA :D

Would say it is safer to download and install it then doing an ota upgrade.

Please have a look at the 8310 link I think it is incorrect

8800M_PBr4.5.0_rel294_PL2.7.0.105_A4.5.0.174_AVEA.exe

For the Curve 8900 , a later version of 4.6.1.XXX being 4.6.1.298 (all the 4.6 versions don't have this threaded sms crap that can't be turned off - since it is a "business" type phone one would expect this "feature")

As always uninstall old version of OS for Blackberry in Add/Remove Programs.
Install new downloaded version.
Goto Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader - delete vendor.xml
Run Loader.exe to install OS to your phone - do NOT run Desktop Manager "unless" to backup the data before wiping / bricking the phone and then after you have loaded the new OS to restore data (if needed)

PS: Will update as the day goes.

A notable omission is the 9500 Storm. Surely the 9530 version will not work with the 9500 (GSM only) Storm?

Does anyone know how to extract the .exe to a folder containing the raw java files?

I cannot open .exe cos I am using a mac and can only go on about this if I have the java files for the 9000.

TIA

i've looked into this, couldn't come up with anything and eventually installed using xp on vmware

I found java files but not for OS 5 firmware. So I'll just keep on looking till I find and let u know.

someone who has installed on a pc just needs to zip and upload the directory somewhere.

This is true. I think they need to go somewhere here:
Program Files > Common Files > Research In Motion > Shared > Loader Files.

and just provide us MAC users with the JAVA folder..

I did some research and found this:

How to retrieve JAVA Files from OS's withOUT using windows

http://forums.crackberry.com/showthread.php?t=336661

In case no one with a PC can help us.

Once we get the JAVA folder we can trick BlackBerry Desktop Manager for MAC into thinking it's installing a 4.6 version...

Check this out:

Code:

(Had to code the link as VB didn't like the last 4 letters... It still didn't allow me, so just remove the spaces for the YT link!!)

Can't stand that dude's accent - but it's worth the watch to learn how to do it.
