Lawn Renovations

I think I have heavy clay soil in my back garden. I tried putting more compost and it improved a bit, but clay still persists. So my lawn is almost dead and loads of weeds.
Sometimes I feel like just removing top 20cm of the soil and replace it with proper soil. 400m2 of it. :p

I have 0 grass in my yard, bought the place like this.

Think I need to open a spot and start planting something

I suppose everyone needs a hobby
Yeah man. Takes me maybe 30min twice a week to mow and maintain my one piece. The feeling you get after putting down some nice stripes after a good mow is priceless. Clears your head as well.

My whole property was dug up and compacted with dolorite when they built the place. So they then laid down the sods of grass on top of this flat hardened surface. Over the years I have put down so much topsoil/lawndressing it got much better.

I had the idea of ripping out all the kikuyu, putting down some new soil and planting a mix of Barenbrug Barbeta Coated RPR and RTF(Turfsaver) seeds.

Di it.
Go for something like above. Or just good old Kikuyu.

Trying to sort this as well; anyone know where to find decent top soil. Like quite a bit

Hah yeah, I need a lot of topsoil myself.

I stubbed my toe on something and it turned out to be almost 1cm of a piece of tile sticking out of the ground. I had to use some tools to get it out, turned into a 10x5cm piece the builders just dumped there.

I can literally pick any piece of ground outside and if I dig I'll find either a bunch of stones or some kind of building rubble.

Doing a complete replant using RTF Fescue. Removed the bermuda over the weekend and will hopefully be able to seed this afternoon. Hoping the cool weather over the next couple of days will help with germination.

What seeds are you using, and where did you get them from? Your location?

On a side note. My first Protea started flowering after planting 6 different varieties. This one is a Sylvia.

Barenbrug rtf, from grasses and greens, I'm in edenvale.

I managed to sow this morning after the dogs woke me up at 6. Now I just have to wait and try to keep my dogs out of the lawn. already had to wash the one dog.

Lawn looking great…

Best stuff in the world EcoWhizz Fish Juice, works like magic by spraying it directly on dull looking grass, but stinks like rotten fish for a day lol

Nice, they are the go-to guys for anything lawn-related imho.

My OCD would be killing me to have a nice patch like that freshly seeded with dogs around.
I even keep my kids off the lawn for 2 weeks when I start the lawn renovations each year. They know to ask me when they can play on the lawn.

I see Barenbrug has a branch in Pretoria. I will pay them a visit.

How much will cost to cover around 100sqm in seeds?
