Hi

I had a 2400W Ryobi lawnmower, that lasted about 3 years. It packed up the other day, and the cost to repair was around the same price as a new lawnmower (R3400), the motor assembly needed replacement. I am now in the market and need help finding one that lasts longer than the guarantee. The lawnmower does about 500 sqm the one say and about 300 sqm the next day.

My current shortlist of lawnmowers are:

Trimtech 2200 W Electric Lawnmower- Makro R2999
Ryobi Petrol Lawnmower 125CC - RM-125P 736327- Builders R2699
TANDEM PACER LITE 2200W ELEC- Livingstones R3599

The lawnmower will be used by the gardener who in the past was able to clean snap the steel handlebar on the Ryobi.

I'd also take any operating advice to help make the machine last longer.

My Rolux is 15+ years old, and except for the safety switch that I disabled, still working as good as day one.
You get what you pay for.
But the operator must understand basic technology, he cant go and hammer the motor when its clogged with grass, then you will f up even a Mercedes

I bought a cheap Fragram electric lawnmower and despite being treated like garbage and left outdoors for over 6 years now, it's still going strong.

Would highly recommend Tandem (petrol). Been using mine for just over 20 years now and still going strong. But then again, never been used by anyone but myself.
Reason my rolux's wheels still go round and round

That little button you've got to keep in ? Cut mine out aswell.

Yes, most lawnmower switches give trouble after years, and mostly that switch, so just disabled it when it started giving problems. Granted, that only happened about a year ago

Think petrol is the way to go, no cord to be annoying, light on fuel, and those engines last forever, especially if its a Honda motor.

Is Wolf still a going concern? My old man's Wolf electric lawnmower has been in service since the early 80s at least - still going.
Wolf in SA is just rebadged Tandem. That being said, Tandem mowers are still pretty good and parts are readily available at reasonable prices.

Same. He has had to replace various parts over the years but could always do it on the cheap. The last time I saw it the plastic covering on the motor had perished and broken off completely so he just replaced it with an overturned bucket with some vent holes drilled into it . It still mowed his massive yard just fine regardless.

I have a Tandem (petrol)....had it for 10 years now...the chassis is fkd on it (aluminium)...not the motor...
But the new chassis is almost the same price as a new mower...
I mow a 2000m2 area....hilly, thick grass....great for the dogs...horrible to push mow! Usually cut once a week in summer...takes about 3hrs. I also dont use a garden guy....do it all myself...

Gets an oil change once a year, maybe a plug if I remember and I blow out the air filter once a year...

My same age R999 Ryobi weedeater (RT 3000) recently packed up (cutting head fell off!)...used that all over in tyhe garden as well as out on a bike trail for a few years and the veld behind my house...Never gave a toss about it as I didnt think it last....Just bought another one for R1199 at Makro...
