Lawnmower help

We have a Wolf lawnmower and they are great machines. Used to have a petrol Ryobi which I paid R6K for and what a monumental waste of money that was! Never ever again will I buy a Ryobi anything.

I have a Wolf petrol lawnmower, bought from House and Home about 15 years ago.
Still going strong, I service it myself, and just recently replaced the blade for the first time. This thing just goes on forever. Mostly used by the garden executive, but I do my fair bit of mowing with it as well.

I’m confused after speaking to a couple of lawnmower shops

So one of the things that’s confusing me is gardening shops and makro both sell 2400W Wolf Lawnmower. The gardening shops claims theirs is better but it seems to be the same. Is there really a difference?

It's called making a sale...

Is trimtech a better option than Ryobi?
Yes. Trimtech, Wolf and Tandem is made by Tandem.

Be aware that Tandem (and I would suspect Trimtech) have very crap "suspension system" (what is the framework that attach the wheels to the chassis called?) on the new 1800w to 2400w models. It doesn’t last like it used to. 2600w and up have the old school heavy duty axles, wheel holders etc.

Ryobi is terrible. I've had Ryobi powertools and electric lawnmowers and weedeaters. Always break after a few months. Never again, "goedkoop is duurkoop".
wtf are you doing with them? My Ryobi lawnmower and sidewinder weedeater has lasted 4 years now.

Got a ryobi petrol mower for the past two years, and it hasn't given me a day's nonsense, don't let the garden engineer anywhere near it. My grass is thick and gets cut weekly. Before this mower I had a ryobi electric mower that lasted about 8 years think the gardener had to do with it demise.
Ryobi cordless drills are rubbish and a waste of money otherwise other than that I haven't had issues with their garden tools

Wait trimtech is also owned by Tandem? So the premium tandem mowers at the garden shop and the cheaper trimtech are actually the same mower with a different brand?

I’d assume the suspension issue applies to wolf as well?

I had a Lawnstar 2800w that I bought in I think 2008. Sold it today on facebook in still mostly a 99% working condition. It was missing a bolt that I somehow lost after taking the motor to the lawnstar factory shop to have the shaft, or I think the blade connector refitted, which I think had to be pressed back on.

Anyways only 2 things in that whole time broke that needed replacement.
1. the switch, where something inside melted, and I think it was my mistake for overworking the motor
2. the blade on the shaft came lose and they were happy to fix for a small fee

I;d say that was a good running and the buyer today was happy with his purchase. The motor was still going 100% and the mower stood its whole life in a garage. Only downside, it was also used by my gardener which is can be rough on machines.

If I were to buy again, I would definitely consider a lawnstar again. It does help that there is a factory shop in Epping here in CPT.

Only reason I sold it, not using it anymore and wanted the space back in the garage.

Rolux Magnum electric, bought I think in1978. Still going strong. Replaced the wheels once and a new grass catcher.

It has been abused by many a gardener.

Also why do you need a bigger motor if the garden is bigger?

Comparing it to a car 1.4l and a 3.0l can both take me the same distance with one being faster

duty cycle is the issue. How long can you use the mower continuously? The bigger motor presumably can be used for longer.
