It could be. At half the price it's a no brainer, especially if you're concerned about value.

If you can afford it/either though then spoil yourself, of course. ;)
 
I wish FNB could give you a voucher to collect the TV in your own time ; the logistics of getting a 55" TV delivered to me at work vs an iPad are very different.

The couriers can't give a proper date/times, the TV won't fit in my car, I need to wait 2 weeks and they won't deliver to me on a Saturday - almost too much work to get it and rather swipe on a budget 24 months @ R570.00ish if you really want it
 
Not exactly high-tech, but my mom picked up Sinotech 40" LED at makro for their special of R3799.
Comes with a 5 year guarantee.

Kalahari has the 32h4100 for R3699 with a 2m hdmi cable, and you get a R700 Kalahari voucher back.
It has a decent media player, good tv for the bedroom (simplistic use).
 
I am looking at buying a LG 47LB652T 3D LED TV- http://www.lg.com/za/tvs/lg-47LB652T - cannot find any reviews, anyone out there own one of these. Price is about R9550. Any advice and comments would be appreciated .

Well it has two good things that I look out for with LED TVs: Direct BLU and no local dimming.
Edge-lit BLU and local dimming sucks.
 
Main uses are going to be watching DSTV, and tv shows through my XBMC media pc. Just a little worried about DSTV SD channel quality on it though!!

I listened to a very interesting conversation at our local Makro yesterday. There was a elderly gentleman who was looking at a 51" Samsung full HD plasma TV. He said he is retired, and only watches sport, and has heard that for this, plasma is the way to go. The most erudite sales person informed the gentleman that you do not get a full HD plasma in South Africa. It is only in full HD when you watch something in 3D! According to him the "normal" viewable resolution of the plasma is 960X540. He then tried to convince this gentleman to by a 48" Smart TV which was currently on promotion. No matter how I tried to tell he is speaking utter nonsense, he just said he has been doing this for a long time, and knows his products! I left before I had a stroke!

I'd like to look into this, in order to determine what exactly LG's 'direct lit' entails. The price of the LCD TV in question has me sceptical as to its directness.

Unbelievable. The elderly gentleman could school a few folk around here too.

The 'LED' myth has been shoved down salesmens' throats as much as ours, a recipe for disaster which explains the current beliefs.

Could one of you guys with a series 6 Samsung maybe post pics of the settings you're using, I know every model is different and the viewing environment plays a big factor, I'm just interested to see what I can maybe change on mine for better PQ.

Also got it yesterday and also set it up after the F1 :D So far, so good, but I did not have a lot of time to play with it yet. Did some wireless streaming using Serviio

I'm pretty happy, everything is life size :-) . I will probably not use the apps (I saw some people complain that the TV is slow), but will use the wifi capabilities for DLNA streaming. That is working flawlessly for me using Serviio.

TV is great. Image quality is really great. Cannot get the Netflix app to work though. Really annoying. I do have Netflix through my Xbox, but the tv app won't work.
It shows my profile and all the lovies, but when I click on any movie it loads to about 11% to 13% and then spits out an error. Code aip-701.
I have reset the hub and uninstalled all apps, but no success.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I do have the correct Dynamo Cape Town DNS.

Yes this happened to me when I updated the Netflix app.

You need to switch your tv to the UK region, get the Netflix app, turn off auto updates and switch back to the US region if you want to.

Never heard of it, nothing on Google.

Also, it's placed next to a 4 Series HD Ready plasma which costs more.

Definitely a typo. Questionable site too, seems dodgy.
