LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Replacement of the screen is costly, not probably repairable.

55UH770 is R15,999 at Makro. I want to upgrade my Samsung 55" Plasma. R16k is a bit beyond what I wanted to pay but if you TV experts reckon this is a good deal...

Plasma is the biggest load of schyite to ever hit the market. It is power hungry, gets hot, on screen colours wash out....but the biggest bitch of it all, is that it causes untold RFI interference to any forms of receiving equipment. You could probably use a Plasma TV to jam someones car remote, that's how bad they are.

But what will keep me warm in winter?

Personal opinion. Everybody's eyes are different.

I prefer my cheap HD ready JVC plasma to the latest and most expensive UHD LED-LCD TV's. The picture on LCD looks "unnatural" to me and breaks immersion.

If I could buy a better (and full HD) one in good condition I would do so without hesitation.

So if anybody has a plasma they're not using after "upgrading" I'm interested.

I also respectfully disagree.

My Samsung series 5 Plasma has a rich, deep contrast picture quality that rivals most other TVs. Only OLED could beat it...

I have owned a couple of TV's and agree, the colour on Plasma is just great.

Also no ghosting.

Currently have 51" and 60" Samsung plasma and I love them.

This - 52" Samsung plasma. No ghosting or major heat. An old school plasma maybe, not the newer ones. Beats my LED for contrast and more natural color. Full backlit LED maybe not, haven't tried.

We are hearing about HDR immensely these days in the press but aren't the videos used to show comparisons over exaggerated? Sure OLED gives a deeper black but my Samsung 46D6600 ain't far behind. Those older 4 year old TVs even have dedicated black colour control.

I was fortunate enough to grow up in an era when picture quality improved vastly with the introduction of modern flat screens. It's going to take a similar jump to convince me to spend more. These subtle changes don't impress me.

Lol, a LED backlit panel almost as good as OLED at black levels... Good one, pull the other leg, you might win a prize.

I think both are close enough to real black that it no longer makes that much of a difference.

What makes OLED better IMHO is the accurate colours that can look natural if set to be (store settings tend to be over-done like LCD) and the lack of that horrible "edge effect" one gets when theres a sudden colour change.
