LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Interesting that it's a PAxxx and not a PSxxx. A = Americas (E = Europe, S = Southern Hemisphere (I think)).

Ours have always been PS. All the same really, but perhaps they stopped making PS as they start to shut down production.

Probably because DSTV HD PVR is 1080i. 720p is in fact favoured in some instances like sport.

You can look into interlaced vs progressive if you like. But honestly, sell your LCD and get plasma like we've suggested.

You shouldn't lose much on your purchase if you're not able to return it to Hirsch's. Remember, about 90% of the market wrongfully think LCD is the best.

Well the Hirschs manager seemed to be sucking numbers outta his fingers saying that they charge 20% handling or restocking fee. Selling privately will be the only option then. Not gonna sell until I know for sure what will be replacing it.

Are there any modern looking plasmas around? Thin bezels?

5 Series and up all have thin bezels and the four-prong stand. Far better looking than 5 Series LCD.

Personally these are insignificant to me. Will make little difference while in its perch or wall mounted. PQ is where it counts.

Funny when you see a broucher at dion wired for a R150 000 t.v. stating that free delivery and installation.
Lol... I just spent R150 000 on a t.v. how is it 'free' delivery... R200 delivery that you normally charge doesn't matter anymore... :D

I've owned 2 Sammy 51" plasmas. They were excellent valuefor money but my current 7 series Sammy LED is better in every way.

Whats the consensus on getting the smart tv vs same screen non smart? Cheaper /better to just get a roku3 or similar?

Perhaps, but the problem is that you're then in 8 Series 51" plasma territory, which will trump your 7 Series LCD.

8 Series is supposedly the best on the market at the moment, best plasma Samsung has ever made, etc.

Everything above 5 Series Samsung/entry level TVs will by default come with SMART.

If you're limited to 5 Series/entry level, then it's up to you whether you want SMART or not. TVs in that range will be the same quality otherwise, it's just SMART at a slight premium vs no SMART. There's not much else you're getting, certainly nothing in terms of PQ.

Reviews look pretty good but these AV stores in SA are renowned for heavily inflating their prices.

Or ask Hirsch's if they can get it (should be able to).

Or get the PS51F5500? It's an exceptional plasma which will give you what you want. You're unhappy with your LCD, you miss your plasma, and 5 Series plasma will give you more than you ever had.

I don't see why you really need such a high end plasma. You bought a 5 Series LCD, why didn't you originally go for a 6+ Series LCD if you're prepared to spend more? :p
