Sup guys

thinking of changing lcd's from 17" standard lcd to 19" widescreen. Is Widescreen better for gaming ???

Personally, i find widescreen better (especially in WoW where you can see more of your ui :p)

After playing crysis at 1680:1050 (i think thats the res), i refuse to play on anything lower

I prefer 4:3 monitors for gaming. But Widescreen is a must for movies :>

Haha - you have just never gamed on a widescreen then!

I can't stand playing on anything smaller than my current screen.
17", 19",21" ? They FEEL SMALL!

I own a 22" Wide, 2ms ASUS LCD Screen.

WideScreen VS 4:3 Monitors?

- Widescreen has brighter color
- Easier to carry to a LAN
- Better for Movies, and id say Gaming too!
- Like ^^ that guy ^^ said, more UI for icons, etc..
- Snob Appeal :D
- NO GLARE from the Circular Sphere shaped GLASS!

I've got a 19" widescreen, and I find it better.

Some games older than three or four years don't support 16:10 resolutions natively, but there's usually an easy fix available. (I'm sometimes surprised by some really old games which have 16:10 resolutions natively.)

All new games worth their salt support it natively.

Lcd's don't use glass?

I have a 19inch normal screen, and for fps (cod4, Quake 4, Bf2 etc) Its WAY better than wide screen (probably better for RTS too). Wide screens are better for rpg's, flight sims and racing sims.

Basically all new games support widescreen resolutions, so I see no reason why you shouldn't take advantage of that ;)

Quite honestly after I gamed on my wide screen I have never looked back it's great, just make sure your card will be able to perform at the native resolution.

Lol. Widescreens are NOT inherently "brighter" than standard aspect screens. Some newer games don't scale correctly with widescreens (look at Bioshock).

A standard 20" has the same native resolution as a 22" widescreen (1680*1060).

In the end, it all comes down to the PANEL that the screens use. TN-based have a faster response time, while S-IPS has far better image quality.

Higher than 8ms and it starts to ghost but 99.99% of all LCD's are 8/5/4/2ms so no problems there :D

+1

Problem is that S-IPS sacrifices quality for response. They often are roughly about 25ms.

Most LCDs, when quaoting response, quote the gray-to-gray timing, and not the "on-off switching".

Since PAL runs at 30ms, it is often unnoticeable in movies.

Gaming is different though.

look at http://www.tftcentral.co.uk for more info.
