LCD upgrade...does a matte surface spoil the image?

I'm considering a new XL2370 or PX2370 but as far as I can tell from websites, they're both matte. Currently I have a glossy 2232GW, so I'm just afraid I'll be disappointed by a matte finish. Any comments? Does a matte screen spoil the image clarity?
 
Glossy screens appear to be slightly brighter but the downside is that you see every reflection clearly. Whereas with a matte finish any reflection is "diffused" so it's not as distracting.
 
I had a 2232GW and was also a bit sceptical going for matte. As SaiyanZ mentioned there's no reflection with matte and is much better.

Congrats on which ever screen you get, both are awesome :)

I wish my laptop had a matte screen due to all the different angles you can possibly work with it, then gloss is a problem. I'm afraid that when I move into a new apartment that this will be a problem with my PC, which will be my HTPC, so matte would do me good. So I won't lose much image prettiness due to matte? I'm glad to hear that.

PS can anybody confirm that the following screens can do proper HDCP (unlike my 2232GW) for blu-ray DRM rubbish:

PX2370
P2450H

what i also noticed is that a glossy screen attracts way more dust through static charge
 
+1 for the matte
Apart from the reflections, I find the glossy screens pick up a lot more fingerprints as well
 
Ok so I got myself a PX2370, and I must say, Matte is great! Dunno why I worried so much :p
 
i also chose a matte screen and its great, i was never worried though as i was ready to settle for a "dimmer" image than looking at myself while watching a movie
 
Jip, taking matte finish any day before I have to stare at my reflection (or the background) in the monitor.
 
Loved glossy when I had my 2233GW, but when I got my 2494HS with the matte finish I was thrilled.

Only then do you realise that the reflection was annoying ;)

Your opinion does not count seeing you want to buy a pretty Mac. Do you just like looking at your own reflection in the screen? :p
 
I prefer matte screens - much easier to see things when you got a light source behind you.

Glossy screens just reflect dust, fingerprints and light sources easier.
 
Glossy screens are only nice when the machine is switched off. They make the machine look pretty in the showroom but honestly who wants pretty instead of functional. Matte has no reflection and a truer picture reproduction.
