I thought that this is what the article is basically about?Nice article, now hopefully the next one will be about the different features punted on LCD'/Plasma's and their effect/value on price. Thus is it worth paying for.

It lists the generally accepted pros and cons of each. Now off course people are going to come in here and be fanboys of one over the other because they've seen better results on x brand LCD over y brand plasma (or vice versa) - but that's not the point of the article. The point is to put buyers in a more generally informed position from the start - and they may then go out and see which is best for them rather than having to accept the salesman's word.
Before I bought my 50” TV, I was sure that it would be an LCD. But I was surprised (this was early this year) when I started reading and doing research that the “conventional wisdom” that LCDs were far better than plasma was in fact not wisdom at all. I ended up buying a plasma.
Do you shop for TV's often at Hi-Fi Corp then?![]()
From what I've seen, a plasmas picture seems be a bit duller than an LCD's picture, especially when the TV is in a brightly lit area. So how can it be clearer, have greater contrast, truer blacks and greater colour depth when it looks dull compared to an LCD?
5 years lifespan on plasma gas.
In a nutshell.Pros:
Plasma
Cons:
- Richer Colours
- Better viewing angles (tho LCD has caught up a lot on that point)
- Better contrast (i.e. better quality blacks)
- Pixel sizes. It's difficult, if not impossible, for plasma pixels to be less than 0.5 or 0.6 mm in size. To achieve a resolution that is competitive the screen sizes must be bigger.
- Plasma pixels are also subject to burn-in.
- Plasma screens require more power than their LCD counter-parts
LCDPros:
Cons:
- Small pixel sizes. Why you don't see plasma screens on cameras, cellphones, etc.
- Less power consumption
- Image stability. Plasma screen tend to cause eye fatigue if you're sitting too close.
- Viewing angles. (It's getting better but there's still room for improvement)
- Contrast performance. Especially when it comes to the depth of the blacks. (Again, it's getting better but I doubt it'll ever be as good as CRT or plasma)
- Latency. Much better these days but still a problem. Plasmas have no latency issues.

For PC use, which would be better? 50" Full HD plasma or LCD?
