My own experiences, given the LCD vs Plasma debate that has once again flared up recently.

If this is considered trolling, then mods, please delete.

I had yet another look today at picture quality of LCD vs Plasma on the same HD feed on similarly priced TVs, same size, side-by-side.

1) If there was any difference in contrast, it was completely unnoticeable even though I was looking for it.

2) Picture clarity was noticeably better on the LCD. I'm talking about night-and-day.

3) Sideways panning scenes were much better on the plasma.

4) Motion in non-panning scenes was equivalent. I could not notice any difference, despite looking very hard for one.

Go check it out for yourself at your favourite store.

put that LCD in a darkish room and you'll see the contrast start sucking (unless its LED) but i dont think thats what your talking about.

Was a room where I controlled lighting. Still no difference in contrast.

Too many quotes from Yoda and this is how you eventually end up writing.

Where did you test the sets?

Which models?

Did you test sport and SD TV?

;)

Comparisons in-store as well as at a client.

See number 4 above. This relates to both sport and action scenes in movies.

Closest to SDTV was upscaled DSTV through HD PVR.

Having just bought an entry level plasma I'm a bit biased but when cost enters the equation and sports/movies are what you are watching plasma is the way to go.

I can buy a 42 inch plasma for 6-7k which looks like an LED LCD the same size that costs three times as much. And no, I don't think you can even get a 42 inch crappy LCD in that price range.

I have had the misfortune of watching sport on a cheap LG LCD and it looked terrible.

I'm not into console gaming so the choice was a no-brainer.

Nah, I don't mind these threads.
In about 2 months time it will be time for me to start looking for my new baby which will sit in my living room. I honestly can't decide what to go for, LCD or plasma. I like the fast response times on the LCD's and I will be doing a fair amount of gaming on the TV as will the wife :) I also watch a lot of movies and a fair amount of sport (ie. rugby and cricket mostly). It's very difficult to decide as my needs are suited by both technologies :/

I would easily get a plasma but my only concern is the issue related to gaming. I know you should stop every 2 hours to "rest" but that often doesn't happen. Budget will be around R16k I reckon but if it was REALLY worth it then I could strech it a little. I also couldn't care one Fscking bit about 3D crap, it actually irritates the hell out of me :)

For 16k you can get a high end LCD which will do everything really well, especially gaming.
