So the wife and I are taking a serious look at making a positive change in our lives.

Would you guys mind posting your monthly LCHF shopping lists with quantities and perhaps prices/places to shop for the more exotic ingredients that you use.

We would love to go balls to the wall and get started but a quick glance through the Weight Loss Thread and it seems that the LCHF lifestyle is prohibitively expensive to get into.

Coconut Oil
Butter
Meat
Spinach
Broccoli
Cream

It can be expensive to get into, but it's worth the investment. Don't half-arse it because you'll end up eating high fat some days and high fat and high carbs on other days. Not good.

Yeah, decent meat, decent dairy and nuts are all expensive, and the relative cheap price of carb laden food just makes it seem even worse. Wellness Warehouse was selling almonds for R160/kg two months ago, the price has shot up to R260 now :(

To add to the ongoing list:
Cauliflower (boil, roast, stir fry, mash)
Cucumber
Lettuce (for wrapping burgers etc up)
Plain yogurt (double cream/greek style)
Cream cheese (medium fat)
Cheese, lots and lots of cheese
Blueberries (in small quantities)
Salami, chorizo
Avocado pears

If you're going to be baking and want to make bread or pancake substitutes etc. you'll need to buy almond flour and/or coconut flour. Some of the recipes require a bit of psyllium husk too.

You really don't have to go for exotic stuff. Don't make it too difficult for yourself. Eat real food like meat, veg and good fat off the green list. You will find that it is actually cheaper than your old carb-laden junkfood and snack lifestyle.

I dunno about that. Meat is helluva expensive, good meat even more so. Not to mention cheese, good butter/oils, nuts etc.

But it's definitely worth it.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Gary, that link is amazing, cheers for that.

Looking at all of this I think we will definitely have to make compromises but I think we can still make it work.

I think the biggest change we can currently make to our diet is cutting out the bread/pasta/rice with alternatives which it seems we may be able to do quite easily.

Our biggest concern was what we would be eating for breakfast and lunch during the week, which usually consists of Muesli for breakfast and bread for lunch.

True, but I eat the same amount of meat and cheese on LCHF than before, actually less as my portion sizes are smaller. I just cannot eat that much anymore.

Yes definitely worth it! My health is so much better.

Carbs make it convenient to eat on the run, but you can make some nice salads/quick meals with some planning. There are alternatives to bread and rice, but they are a bit more time consuming/expensive than carb options obviously.

It's that fat :) Keeps you satiated for longer.

Almond flour for olive foccacia bread , julienned baby marrow for pasta, and grated cauliflower for rice :D

Hi Mike,

Can you post a link to the Weight Loss thread for me. I can't find it. Thanks
