Hi guys

My pc was hit by lightning the other day and it fried my box and router...

I have since bought a new motherboard and Netgear wired router. Everything working like it should, cept for internet connectivity. In the netgear log all i see is "LCP down" and "LCP allowed to come up"

Wtf does that mean. I have logged a call with Telkom, but we all know how long it can take to be resolved.... U guys have any ideas??

Im on TelkomISP also...

PS: A friend suggested that it might be the session not closed properly when i was shut down by the lightning, but i dunno....

Any feedback appreciated...

Cheers

Sounds like it is synching OK and LCP is OK meaning it should be at the stage where it is trying to authenticate but possibly cant authenticate... check user name and pw with the ISP, try another... it may also be the router shot tho... or DSLAM

Ok

I have tried re entering my username and pass. Even used some1 elses TelkomISP details... Same error...

welcome to the world of NETGEAR

officially the worst product on the planet

Hmm, LCP = protocol of PPP responsible for initiating, authenticating, errors and session terminating. Could be wrong username and pass but you say you know that's defo not the problem, so it could be something not on your side.
Really I can't help but I thought I would just tell you what LCP is responsible for.

there has been fairly wide-spread problems with ADSL authentication all over lately. My line was down this morning for a few hours with the same error (LCP is down, etc.).

Your line is synching so I doubt there's anything wrong with the physical connection.

Telkom should be able to sort it out.

I have been having this problem intermittently for the last 3 weeks. I play Guild Wars and the disconnection rate is really annoying me.

Does anyone know how to get hold of Putin, I want to find out how much it costs to add a few "well known" individuals to the polonium-210 distribution list :)

Ag nee, I'm really grumpy today :)

Peace.

Hi

I spoke with a friend of mine,,, he said he had the same problem. HE phoned up telkom who then said that his session hadnt terminated properly the last time. This is why he was receiving the LCP error. Apparently they fixed it over the phone, but I will get clarity on this

We had the same issue as well but Telkom will lie through their asses to you about how to fix it. For us it was a problem with the port we were on.

One telkom person fixed it for us over the phone while another told us that it was completely impossible to do and would need a techie to come out within the next week.

Hmm It seems something else is going on. All of a sudden I dont have a dial tone... Im gonna kill someone !

Welcome to the MyADSL forums! :D

AOL is rather well known for their bad service. Time for a change I would say. Luckily, unlike in SA :( , you have allot of other choices available to you.
Good luck with the complaint you have lodged against AOL!
