I think he meant more why would someone forego the opportunity if it’s openly available to them.

Same thing that I can’t fathom.

It’s an enabler for the rest of your life and kind of the first step to adulting.

Like millions of others in this country and around the world, probably through Uber and other public transport.

You didn't need to explain yourself. People seem to forget that there are plenty of people out there who live without a car.

Your journey is your own. I hava a ex-colleague who is 30 and only just got her license now that she can afford to buy herself a car.

Code 10 is easier, the test is much shorter and the trucks are super easy to drive, you have to be a complete tool to roll those

Yep, it's quite sad, you have certain people who see things ONLY in their way and do not want to see it anyone else's way. They do not want to even try understand, if it is not done in their way it's wrong.

I find it odd to be so closed minded.

It can take ages to book the license, they can end up failing numerous times to get more money or for a bribe.

Agreed. Those "trucks" are for all intensive purposes bakkies with double tyre's at the back. Super easy to drive, better visibility than any car and not much bigger. The other benefit is that you can then tow a big trailer or caravan without having to do a test with one.

My daughter at now nearly 19 has no interest in driving and it is like rolling a stone uphill to get her in the car(she eventually got her learners) to practise driving. It drives me nuts! I got my license on my 18th birthday but she has no desire to drive at all.

I mean no offense by calling you intolerant.
It's the whole "getting your license past age x" which is majorly discouraging to anyone who still doesn't have their license.

Which is weird because you were a major influence to me picking up Linux and using it everyday.

I think considering your seniority on this forum the very last thing you should do is break other people down about their life choices or being hard on someone for getting their drivers license late.

I mean I am a self taught mechanic who works in IT, albeit a basic position who is trying to learn programming and software development, by himself.

Dont instill a fear or some sort of shame into someone you do not know know from a bar of soap from achieving "x goal" because they are too old.

Rather support them in the face of outright failure because they may learn a thing that you do not.

Also, I am hideously drunk right now @SauRoNZA so feel free to disregard this as bullshit
 
My intolerance of the situation lies more in how I’ve witnessed people sponge off the good will of others in this regard because they are too lazy to resolve the issue for themselves due to convenience of simply cashing in favours.

What’s shocking is that very quickly it’s no longer cashing in favours but an entitled expectation.

Unless there is a very valid reason you can’t simply do and accomplish the same basic things I’ve done, that makes you exploit me for them, I have no time for you.
 
No completely fair point, and yet some people stupidly choose to hel, try and teach people something, and support other for little to nothing in return.

Perhaps that is their disposition, being ever kind and helpful(guilty of this sometimes) and I will admit it has led me to places where I have been exploited, I do agree with you there - however you do learn to discern quickly when you are being abused.

Back to the topic at hand, support the dude who want to get his license, don't knock him and ask him for an explication, you do not know his circumstances, whether they are self created or externally created.

Give the dude solid advice, which you are actually good at. Seriously.

Lol! Shame, I'm sure she will eventually come around to it when she starts seeing her friends getting their drivers licenses and cars, make the peer pressure work for you

BUT I have similar situation with my younger brother, he is 23 years old, he is a smart kid, studying a BSc IT and smashing his studies like a champ, even his Learners and Drivers license, he got through them with relative ease, althouwe had to force him to get it all done as he was dragging his feet on it, yet.... He does not really want to drive, he rides his bicycle to varsity and back, and uses Uber with his pocket money when going out. When we are on holiday and hire a car its usually me or Dad driving.

When he gets a job I think he will rethink this whole thing of not driving
 
Apologies for the thread necro...

I've booked online at natis.org for learners license for my daughter for Edenvale DLTC, about a week ago. It said booking fees payable at the DLTC, now I'm hearing booking fees are meant to be paid online prior to writing, or writing won't be permitted.

Can anyone clarify?
