Yea me too. Mine said, "You've reached the number you dialed. Please leave a message"

Then people moaned about it being rude and never left messages anyway (I don't phone back if you don't leave a message and I don't know your number)

So I changed it to: "You've reached the number you dialed. If you'd like me to phone back please leave a message, otherwise I won't bother. Thank You"

Apparently that one wasn't good either but I figured "**** it, they can go to hell"

Same story. I was surprised by people commenting on my various messages. One would be "Too abrupt". The next some other complaint, maybe "too long". I thought they were fine, but I would change it.

Then I decided that as I was getting a lot of messages at some time that I would ask the caller to tel me what they were calling about. The theory being that I would save my and the caller's time if when I called back I had the answer to the query. Particularly if I got the caller's voice mail - we would not start a game of phone tag.

Noo....! Not acceptable. "Too pushy", I was told.

So I said "f..k it!". I now just have my number read out by the machine. Which, btw, still doesn't make people happy.. "Why don't you have personal message?"!

It can't be too short. People need time to think of what to say.

that's what irritates me to high hell. you're phoning... for a reason... think before you dial the frigging numbers!

its like people getting in their cars then driving around like morons skipping over lanes suddenly because they "missed a turn off"

you'd think they'll go "hey, I'm going to drive to steers now to buy some burgers, I wonder, I should take route xyz and stay in this lane then move to that one and turn in there...yes... thats what I'll do"

Instead, they get into the car and go "steers?" and drive all over the place pissing me off!

Because you react differently to a person as opposed to a machine. What you've planned to say to the person now has to be reworded to leave as a message.

I used to have a long rambling message, just to annoy a certain person who complained I never answered my phone :D I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was one of those pre-recorded joke ones along the lines "hello, I'm not answering my phone right now, but then you expected that, didn't you, wouldn't it be nice if I actually got to my phone in time to answer it once in a while, oh well, leave a message and I'll get back to when I notice the missed call indicator blinking".
