LED Lights: Yes or No?

Main lights too

Interesting, there was talk of LED main lights for the Mk7.5 Golf but I don't think anything materialized, locally anyway. I never liked the look of them from the pictures I saw and prefer the look of a xenon setup with LED DRL's and taillights. R12k is quite an expense on a Polo which is already quite an expense itself.

I was driving an S3 with LED lights, and they do make the world of difference in terms of the tech on offer.

Wider lighting profile on the road.
Further illumination.
It is also a whiter light so easier on the eyes at night.

Yep. The new one.
In the Polo the LED lights Don't do anything special like bending when you turn or selectively turning off LED's to avoid blinding oncoming traffic.

But I would still take it, looks nice and is brighter than halogen

Generally yes but on a Polo where say 80%-90% of them don't have it, it is a selling point.
Because I know that dealers shaft you on extras come trade-in I bluntly refuse to pay premium because of "included extras" when I buy secondhand.

I find that LED makes a world of difference compared to the halogen as standards and it's an option I would take.

I am buying a Polo and one of the optional extras is LED lights. The cost comes up to an additional R10k. Is there any advantage of getting LED lights over the standard lights?
Buying a VW is like buying a gift, you just don't know for who yet.

So do you want them to have the LEDs or not?

Does the Up! get hijacked/stolen ?
Funnily enough I have not heard much about those getting stolen or hijacked, I guess they just don't sell at the high volumes like Polo and Polo Vivo do.

Up! Is more of a "lifestyle" vehicle like a MINI or Fiat500 I guess.

The safety features on the Up! probably makes it the best new buy in the up to R185 000 mark. Only vehicle with 4 airbags etc.

Yep, you can probably get an even better deal when getting a Demo.

They are great little cars, a relative had an early Up! And she loved it but didn't drive it enough to justify having two cars so sold it. It was the 2door though.

This is a genuine case of VW ripping you off. It should be a R2500 option at most

I agree 10k is expensive (and similar in price to LED headlights on other vehicles), but how on earth did you thumb-suck R2500? Automotive headlights are are a safety feature on a vehicle, and as such they go through various tests (R&D included in the price).

I never said a headlight is R2500. I mean the price of the headlight over standard Halogen. I was merely stating what a reasonable option cost for LED's over Halogen should be and that LED unit is not as complex as a Xenon unit, its power requirements and bulb cost.

I tried to find the cost for the LED option on the Clio, but I see they just made LED headlights standard now, as VW should have done, especially on a GTi

All that being said. I will probably spend the R10k on that option, as when i bought my Polo Gti (previous TSi model), i didnt take the Xenon option and regretted it for many years after.

I was horrified at the cost of the optional extra's on my Golf when I was in the buying process but didn't have my choice as it was the only one in the country in the colour I wanted with the options I wanted. Luckily the dealer gave me one of the options for free and looking back, I am glad that I got every option on the car.
