Hi everyone, 1st post here and been reading a hell of a lot threads here that has given a lot of input, so I guess just a general thanx to the entire community :)

So my dilema, basically a R10k budget to upgrade from my 7year old 32"Bravia to new tv.
My requirements:
DSTV HD (Still need to get that aswell)
PS3: Games and Blu-ray movies
PC: Work, Games, Movies
Seated about 3m away and where there is a lot of light during the day.

What I had in mind and had my heart set on was the Sony 46EX520 as I could get it for R10k.
Sammys answer was the equivalent size and price D5000 series.
Then I read and witnessed the difference ito MHz (50Mhz) and saw the motion bluring in both screens.
A good salesman suggested to up the ante a bit(as all salesman do) to consider the Sammy D6000, comparing apples with apples this introduces the Sony 46EX720.
Sooo now I'm leaning towards the Sammy as I can get that for R12700 and the best price for the Sony is R16000.
My question is do I go for said obvious - or should I consider any other alternatives possibly even going smaller i.e. 40" with a better spec if there is such a thing.
Any advice is appreciated
Thanx

40" is best for a distance of three meters.

And since you said there is a lot of light coming in, I wouldn't recommend a LED due to the fact that overcasts to many shadows on screen making it barely visible to see... I'd recommend a LCD, works best in well lit areas and even darker areas.

Either you forget 100Hz, considering its rare use (sport and some gaming, otherwise for general media, movies, series, it is frowned upon because of the "hand held cam effect").

Or you buy the gimmick, to an extent, and fork out a lot for it.

Depending on that, I would go D6000 or D5000.

Sorry, not sure on the LG models.

How come? Given this - http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php/photo/13804/title/resolution-chart/cat/900

At first i was like :wtf: but you actually have a point, especially considering CCFL LCDs are generally matte, opposed to LED LCDs which are generally glossy (less than plasma, however).

The problem though is that Samsung specifically have dropped all LCDs with 100Hz+ etc. Now those techs are reserved for LED LCDs only.

Reinforces people's ignorance around LED TVs... :(

I can't reply with quotes quick enough :D :D, so thanx for that.
But d@mn you people with giving me more information that makes me give myself a facepalm - oh ignorance is bliss :):):)
Just kidding really thanx for the info:

Oops: sport is a biggy, the wife forced me to get dual view because of how much sport I enjoy - so I wouldn't mind paying for that.

I really thought size matters? Bigger = better (noobism coming out here)

@D3x! : Will def do that thanks for the linkage

As for lighting, would the LED really be worse that the 32" HD READY Bravia I have now:cry:

Yes and yes,

Bigger isn't always better, Try having a 55" tv three meters away from you while playing drakes fortune, you won't even see half the game...

You're absolutely correct, so let's wait to hear from Nokkie. As you can see by the chart, for the full FHD experience on a 50", you need to sit around 2m away.

Serious question, how much PC work will you be doing? i.e. in Windows - static images, windows, bars etc. ?

Am I wrong??

Not much I, I turn the res down on my 32" when I code, but that has been on decrease, so mainly games and movies on the pc.

Funny enough I've just recently, as in the last month, finished Drakes Fortune and Among Thieves, hoping to give Drakes Deception a go on the new TV
