LED TV Dilema

For the amount of money you want to spend, my own situation fits as follows:

I bought LG 47" Cinema 3D LED. TV is in a room with lots of light during the day but fortunately the screen has a matte finish, so I have no reflections problem. The TV also has a "vivid" setting if needed which is really great.

This TV also future proof me and I am really happy with the excellent extra 3D functionality. Besides crystal clear real3D, the system also upscales any content to 3D if you wish.

Popped into audio vision yesterday and sales guy reckons Sony Ex720 if you have the cash as it 'can't be beaten' comparing so called apples with apples, and if not having the cash the LG would be his recommendation.
Bear in mind I can smell the sales talk a mile away :)

That made no sense. :/

... the feed ... the signal into that TV ... but only that TV? :/
Isn't that normally how it work - shops reroute the worst signal feed to the plasma?

No idea what you're talking about. This thread doesn't need trolls, back off man.

Oh - I thought we were joking about the excuses you make? Didn't realise you were actually being serious about shop settings .... !

My bad!

Um, most/all TVs use dynamic/vivid settings while in store. For obvious reasons, as BEE explained.

Aaaanyhooooot, moving along swiftly.

You can bet he is on an incentive to sell sony. Don't listen to sales people who just want to sell you something.

Don't bother asking them because they will lie if it leads to a sale.

Correct but sales BS aside does the Sony NOT hold any worth ito this discussion?

Another question with these TV's: I like the Picture in Picture feature however does it work with different sources i.e HDMI 1 + HDMI2 or PC and HDMI? My current bravia only have PIP with TV Tuner(Which I dont use) and PC:(

100%, although he may be being genuine about it. Audiovision is a proper AV store with proper testing rooms, not a Game/Makro with bright shop lighting and low wages. :D An Audiovision salesman probably knows more, and certainly has better test experience.

Sony KDL46EX720 and Samsung UA46D6000 have the best black levels out of all the TVs mentioned here, it may very well appear better under those test condition since contrast ratio is normally the decider. LG has better colours.

I was quite disappointed at the LG's black levels, although I suppose it's good enough for bright rooms! :)

Some good info and comparisons there, thanx

The problem with Sony TVs, besides being on the pricey side, is that they dont excel in any aspects (features or performance).

While solid/competent they have no unique differentiators like their competitors e.g. like Samsung with the panel filtering technology & zero bezel housings, and LG with their passsive 3D.

On the LG Cinema 3D LED TV, the "vivid" setting is not a "shop" setting but used mostly when you enter 3D mode. There are many other settings as well, such as "sport", "cinema", "regular", "eco", "autosense" etc.

I also saw that Game now gives 9 3D glasses with each TV, not that its expensive in any way though.

Yep AudioVision at the Waterfront in Cape Town has the 46 LG 3D LED going for R12800 I think and you get a blu ray player + 7 pairs of 3d glassed.

Well i only have experience with samsung LED but my 46" i can sit 1m, work and game from it and it looks incredible.

Please postman let me give my opinion without an argument over it :D.

There is nothing to argue bud. :) Your LED-LCD rocks for PC work and was recommended! 6 Series isn't needed for what you do.

A 46" FHD has the same amount of pixels as other FHD screens ranging from 15.6" and up, meaning the pixels range in size and visibility. If focussing on 46" and 32", there is a obvious difference in pixel size, given the difference in screen sizes. I fully understand your 46" LED-LCD gives you an excellent PC experience. You need to understand that others can, at times, see pixels and pixel matrices on their 32" (D5000 LED-LCD model included). This automatically means they will on a 46". Either you are under-exaggerating your viewing distance, not looking hard enough, or have bad eyesight. I have absolutely no complaints with mine, but some people would, whether they're being anal or not.

Strictly speaking there is a physical difference between the LCD and LED models (e.g. C550 vs. D5000).

The filter technology/materials used to front-end the LCD panels are different. The LCDs use the traditional matt filter, which is designed to diffuse reflections, however its unavoidable that it also (partially) diffuses the image eminating from TV. This is the reason why Samsung developed the new UltraClear filters found on the LED models.

Maybe at close range cameras can pick up the difference?
