LED vs Plasma

And you really shouldn't be sitting 1m away from a 46-inch.

That's more like 32-inch territory.
Not really. 1m is within the recommended range for immersion with a 46" screen, towards the closest viewing distance end. On the other hand it's near the maximum recommended viewing distance for a 32" screen.

SauRoNZA - All the stuff I attempted to find out matters a lot to me. Just because it doesn't to you, doesn't mean it's the same with everyone else. I wouldn't have asked about it otherwise.

You have to understand his perspective though- a lot of the questions and concerns were non-issues in the bigger scheme of things. But I agree that you had valid reasons for asking them- they do help one understand how all the different components and terminologies relate to your viewing experience.

Just saying.

I am more than likely going to go for the LED. Just trying to find out what the response time is. Samsung ZA has yet to reply (after a week).

Update: Samsung e-mailed me stating that the response time is 100hz. Sigh.

Why the sigh?

Maverick Jester - Anything that isn't actually going to be a problem, I only found out wasn't after asking here. Before that, I was under the impression it would. Therefore, this has proved very useful, and the topics were by no means "inconsequential". I appreciate all the assistance I've received.

The sigh is due to the fact that I asked them for the response time in milliseconds, and they e-mail me back the refresh rate in Hz and tell me it's the response time.

Don't worry about the response time.

;)

This is not true. 1m is actually below the recommended minimum viewing distance for a 32" television. 46" would need closer to 2m distance.

Was my point.

Sorry, I actually misread that. It is a fair question to ask the manufacturer if the info is not easily available.

Nothing on the net about the TV's response time?

Maverick Jester - Unfortunately not. As usual, since it's a South African model, there's limited to no information available off the Samsung site, and no reviews. Not even customer ones.

I have seen one Samsung ZA TV that listed both refresh rate and response time in a table, but none of the others I've seen do, which is rather annoying.

I know plasma has like 0.001, and that some LEDs have good ones, like 5ms. I have read reviews of LEDs that have 12ms though, and that's just not good enough for gaming.

Hopefully Samsung sends me the correct information shortly.

Which model is it?

As long as it is 8ms and lower, you will not notice it in even the slightest...

Hi There,
This debate rages not only on this site but in the stores when you approach the supposed experts.
Can you not borrow a screen from someone to try them out in your environment to see which you feel best about?

Regards

Tim

Is there not a cooling off period of 7-14 days when they have to refund you? Do they refund the delivery fee too? Try that maybe.

It'd be really cool if I could borrow/send back a TV, so as to have a test period. I'll see what I can organize.

PostmanPot - I've been gaming for ages and I've read numerous articles stating that below 8ms is where one should aim. Some say 5 and under. There is less risk of lag with a lower response time.

I've seen a Samsung LED with 6ms.

Samsung's taking f**king long to get back to me.

Manufacturers lie about response time. They use grey to grey response time as a marketing gimmick, which is different to actual response time, which is usually around 3 times as 'slow'.

S-PVA panels (as in Samsung TVs) already have faster actual response times than IPS (LG), as a high level gamer myself, I assure you you have nothing to worry about.

If they state that the response time is GTG, they're not lying. And if all manufacturers list GTG, one can compare.

I'd still like to find out what it is before buying it. They should list it online.

Are all Samsungs S-PVA?

Haha. There is one last thing I want to solidify. That TV has a refresh rate of 100hz. Is that the "Samsung enhanced figure"? Ie. the CMR.
