Yeah.

Is there leeway for speeding at all?
I set my cruise control to 131km/h, which is probably a real speed of 128km/h - and I thought in a 120km/h they start trapping at 132km?
Else, I have a number of other fines coming my way ...
You will be fined from
120 zone at 131 km/h
100 zone at 111 km/h
80 zone at 91 km/h
70 zone at 81 km/h
60 zone at 71 km/h
I use iGo SatNav where I set warnings at 110% above speed limit. I'm sure Tomtom, Garmin have similar functionality.
I've received speed fines in Jhb for doing 105 in a 100 zone so either I've been conned by the greedy traffic department whose sole purpose is revenue collection rather than safety or Jhb/Gauteng doesn't give leeway. I know in other provinces there is definitely 10kmh leeway though.
My garmin has the feature, but it doesn't have the leeway included so it beeps after you go over 120.
I found out last Sunday that the maximum fine they can write is for 160km/h... Had to drive behind the cops to the police station.... who kept stopping to ask if I was sure if I wanted to go to the police station or if i wanted to pay a 'spot fine'... fun times....
We have those Average Speed Cameras all over the Western Cape now, my TomTom has this feature where it lets you know you're in a average speed zone and tells you your average. So, when you stop for roadworks, you can speed all you want until you hit the average![]()
Nice choice of words. You can set your cruise control to 130 km/h in a 120 km/h zone and you should be fine.
Cool was it an addon or did it come with the Tomtom? Mine just warns me of the cameras
