Legend 6600GT any good?

It's going to my neighbour. He's still using his onboard VGA (32MB) so for him this card should be great :D

It was R999 for the 6600GT with the game from digitalplanet.co.za, if all goes well i should receive it early next week.

EDIT. The only thing i'm concerned about is the PSU, running a 300 PSU and hopign that it's going to be ok.

The 300 watt power supply should be fine as long as you do not have a lot of other stuff (hard drives etc) in the machine.

I dunno, cheap brands aren't so bad... I bought a chaintech FX5500 and it didn't seem any different to the others... obv. it didn't come with all the cool stuff and games etc. but it did come with the TV cable and it's treated me well...

But now I wanna upgrade and I don't have PCI-X; the damn AGP versions of cards are so much more expensive. :(

I was off sick yesterday, flu @ this time of year sucks.

Uuhhhm, got the card yesterday. Re-installed Windows last night so i'll install some games this weekend.

The packaging was very bland compared to the name brands but that's to be expected. anyway, here is some pics taken with my v600 so it's not the greatest of quality.

I'll use the gf's digi cam for better pics over the weekend as well.

It's running idle @ 46 degrees so i'd like to see what some gaming does to that as well.

Out og box the Core is running @ 500mhz & Mem is running @ 900mhz

Autodetect Overclock put the Core @ 550mhz & the Mem @ 1000mhz.


@Carlhead. My previous card was also the Chaintech FX5500 but Dungeon Siege 2 ran below 10fps on low quality hence the upgrade.
This was my last mini upgrade until i scrap this box and move over to PCI-E next year.....


Q: The warning threshold for the GPU is @ 142 degrees, should i set this lower ?

142 degress :eek: That can fry your card easily.

Warning bells should go on between 70 - 80 degrees I think.
 
i would set that to about 70 deg....

Dungeon Seige 2 ran quite well on my pc with a 5500... I have an AMD sempron 64bit with 1GB RAM.

However on my GF's machine (same card, old sempron 2400 with 512MB RAM) it ran terribly... she finnished the game twice anyway though.
 
Are we talking about the core slowdown threshold here?

Coz On my Gainward 6600GT GS it is set at 145 C as default and I can't change this anywhere! It seems to be hardcoded into the bios of the card.

Yeah, tried it but still does not allow me to change the core slowdown temperature (greyed out). Not too fussed though coz I've got another 80 mm fan directly on the card which is monitored (rpm) so no chance of having a burn out as long as that fan is running!

Well I guess there must be a reason why the temp is set at 145 C. IF the fan does fail AND IF the alarm for the rpm on the fan does not sound AND IF the fan directly on the graphics card fails AND IF the card does go above 145 C AND IF the alarm for that threshold does not sound then I guess it was meant to be! :D Now those are famous last words!
