Legend 6600GT any good?

thats the official website, but their webpage doesnt list the specials on it...
Yeah i just saw that it is only software there

I've heard some good things about Legend video cards; just because their RAM isn't the highest quality doesn't mean their graphics cards are the same. Their AGP 6600 GTs look like excellent value.

The chipset configuration on the Legend seems to be identical to a Palit 6600gt, which is different from the reference boards (which most "well known brands" adhere to for the 6600gt).
The card performs well, but not as well as the reference board based cards.

So the concensus is to go with the Legend 6600GT for R1300.00???

I'm not a serious gamer but I would like decent graphics for games like GTR racing, GT Legends, Prince of Persia series etc.

Will an ANTEC TruePower 2.0 380W PS handle this card ok?

Current specs are as follows:

2.8Ghz prescott processor ( C#$p :( )
1GB DDR RAM
1 x 120GB SATA HDD
FX5500 AGP Graphics card ( Real C#$p :( )
and all the usual odds and ends...........

IMO for that amount of money it will be hard to find more value for money, unless you wait for the 6800GS series to reach SA and see how much they cost.

Dont go for it you dont want this now do you.

Yeah I think adding a 6600GT will inject a nice bit of performance into that PC. The biggest problem you have is the FX5500.

The 6600GT's are the best value for money options right now.

Ok well then the question should be:

What Graphics card would you purchase for R1300.00 or less?

I know the Legend 6600GT isn't going to be the best card out there ( by a long shot) but from what I've seen it still looks like a good deal to me.

What are the alternatives for R1300.00 which would provide the same if not better performance / quality?

I think even though it is not a well known brand a 6600GT for that price will be hard to beat performance wise.

Yeah I gotta say the 6600GT is pretty damned good. I've seen it run Fear at good settings very well. And that was on a AMD 3200+, 512mb RAM system.

it's a good buy! :D

BT Games will have this week the Gainward 6600GT 128MB RAM AGP for R1640.

Thats the only info i have on 6600's.

You can get that legend for R1150 by the way.. i know this thread is old but i am also looking to buy this card now. Does anyone think it would be a really bad idea because the brand is so cheap/bad quality?
So thorin, how is the card working for you?

I decided to rather go with a Gainward 6600GT 128MB Golden Sample. Got it for R1700.00. I've heard the cooling on the Legends is not that good and the 6600GT runs hot even with good cooling ( my Gainward is running at 56 Deg idle - 68 deg under full load).

If you do go with the Legend card, please post and let us know how it goes. I must say I was VERY tempted to get this card.

My Gainward 6600GT GS really is awesome!

Hmm.. the thing is that R550 for the same card is quite alot for me, you must understand i dont even really have the R1150 for the Legends anyways.
But cooling is one thing i wouldn't like to comprimise on, a little bit of performance that is hardly noticable i dont mind though.
I'll let everyone know how the card is if i get it... I sort of have alot of the money for it right now, but i think I'm gonna spend most of that on the weekend and the rest of the holidays. Stupid Obzfest...

Digital Planet were selling the Legend 6600Gt for R661 in their bargin bin - currently appear to be sold out.

posted you a link in the thread below...

EDIT : but not for under R900... lol!

My Legend 6600GT is on the way. Got it from digital planet and they threw in a free game. Going to by some fans and i'll let you know how it goes, it's gotta be an improvement over the ****ty FX5500 which i've managed to flog for R400 .

I'm sure it will be far better than your old FX5500! I also upgraded from a FX5500 to the 6600GT and they are world appart.

Post your 3dMark05 and 3dMark03 results and let us know what temperature it runs at. I'd be interested to see if the extra R600.00 I spent on the Gainward 6600GT golden sample was worth it in the end.

P.S. How did you manage to get R400.00 for your FX5500. I still have mine which I'd like to sell. Awesome card if anyone is interested:D
