Lekker - another one dead

He said when the alleged hijackers saw they were being chased, one pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the police officer.

The officer then returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect, who died at the scene.
Returned fire?
Inaccurate reporting or inaccurate statement?

Maybe they've omitted the fact that the hijacker pulled the trigger..

But then I've also noticed alot of journalists are starting to abuse the English language quite badly...

little by little... :)

Don't do the crime... unless you want your brains splattered all over the pavement! ;)

I know how you guys feel about this... and I know it's been argued with no result before.... but could we cut down on the gloating over someone's death? If not for their own sake, for the sake of those who loved or depended on them?

Being glad there are fewer criminals - okay. Being glad that someone's dead - just doesn't seem right.

Sorry, no, I am happy that this animal is dead. God did his duty and removed this barbarian from society and I could not be happier. I am sorry you feel this way but I for one am very happy.
We live in a sick society that is controlled by the wicked and when one of them gets sent to hell, I couldnt be happier.
I do not mean it personally but this spawn of Satan would've or probably did murder and kill many innocents.

Nope. It's therapeutic ;)

You guys make me sick.

How can you sit around loving the fact that someone has died? That's just twisted. I mean sure they were a criminal, but no one deserves to die.

No different to squashing a bug. These are not humans we are talking about anyway. A human would show compassion and remorse. And as for his family... and their grieving, they should have turned him into the police long ago... and he would still be alive (in jail - but alive). They effectively sentenced him to death by not reporting his crime. That makes them accomplices.

I dare you to tell that face to face, in person, to someone who has had a relative killed by these bastards. And come away without them giving you a hiding.

I guess it's difficult to get across in text. I can rationally appreciate that his death may end up saving other lives, and I say, on balance, maybe it's a good thing he's not around anymore. But I can't go Yay! He's dead!

I'm not sure that the difference in those two reactions comes across well enough in text. The first is regret at death, but gratefulness at others being spared. The second is just... being glad that someone's dead, and that attitude, together with saying they aren't human, is just not acceptable (to me f obviously you guys are free to feel however you like, just as I am)

Cath - nobody's glad that he's dead just because he died - they're glad that he's dead because he was a criminal which is pretty much exactly what you're saying, albeit with slightly less elation. I'm on their side - good riddance...
