Anyone tried to get the Vodafone Mobile Connect to work on the Lenovo X61 Tablet? The tablet has a built in 3G modem, but to get it to work is impossible. I have tried everything. Downloaded the latest drivers and then the correct (i think) Vodafone software. When I run the software I get the error message "Device could not be found". Checked the device manager and the modem is there.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Does it not come with an in-built Connection Manager?

Yes it does, but out of the box the 3G modem is not visible in the connection manager. I had to download drivers to get the modem to appear. It still does not appear in the connection manager. It is installed however and supposedly working fine. OS is Vista BTW.

Once the drivers were installed I had to install the Vodafone software, but after the install it does not detect the modem :(

VMC 9.2?

5.14.0018.0
VMC v5.* is positively ancient - no wonder it cannot detect the embedded 3G device, I'm actually surprised that VMC v5 installs in Vista - only Windoze heXPee was available when VMC v5 was released.

PS: Welcome to MyBroadband :).

Embedded modems were only supported from VMC 8 onwards.

Version 7 caused one of my customers to replace his Laptop(with Vista), as Vista allowed it to be installed halfway and not further. And Vista wouldnt allow him to uninstall it either.

But version 5... how in the hell

ok. got 9.2 and installed it. Still no luck. I get the error: "the device could not be found". I also cannot see the sierra wireless hsdpa modem in the device manager. I did install the firmware update from lenovo. I did system updates for the tablet as well. no luck. I dont think the problem is with the vodafone software. Help please!! :(

btw. the reason why version 5, was because I found another forum and the guy said he got it working with ver 5 and that 9.x didnt work for him.

Check that your wireless is enabled. I know with the Dell's Embedded you need to activate the wireless as its linked to that. Try that.

Like with that one Acer that Vodacom Supplies with the embedded module, it has a switch of its own too.

Vodafone version 5 does exist!

Actually I have seen version 5.14.0018.0 for Lenovo Built-in 3G Broadband notebooks, here on this link:-

http://www.business.vodafone.com/site/bus/public/enuk/support/10_productsupport/built_in/80_lenovo/90_general_lenovo/10_software/p_software.jsp

Full URL is: "http://www.business.vodafone.com/site/bus/public/enuk/support/10_productsupport/built_in/80_lenovo/90_general_lenovo/10_software/p_software.jsp"

I can confirm that I have installed this software and is fully working on my Lenovo X61 Model 7762-74G, with Windows XP Tablet Edition and built-in Sierra HSDPA WWAN card.

Cheers
