Leopard to be released 26th October....

admittedly it's a grey area but calling it Piracy is a little heavy. I have previously bought the Tiger family pack and unbeknownst to me it was the exact same disc and packaging as the standard, just an extra little sticker saying "family pack".

Spend the extra $70 if it helps you sleep at night.

Copying software for profit is piracy.
It's no grey area - you're buying licenses to use the software not the cd/dvd or sticker.

Are the local apple stores actually expecting to have it in stock this friday?

Yes you're right.

I suppose a grey area is when Apple repeatedly has misleading marketing practices. dazzling the consumer into believing their tech specs are bona-fide and everything they produce justifies a mark-up.

I suppose a grey area is the unapologetic grief caused when their products commonly go wrong - two dead ipods, two dead laptops, one replaced screen, RAM replaced, batteriy replaced, 1 full hard drive failure in 3 years. I'm sure I've forgotten something.

I suppose a grey area is the love/hate relationship i have with these machines.

It's no grey area for me to find ways of giving as little as possible to companies to that want to take as much as possible.

We all have our reasons, like I said, spend the extra if it helps you sleep at night.

If you have such disdain for the company and the hardware why are you still using it?

I've been loyal since the Apple IIe. When they're running well (which is most of the time), they're simply superior.

It's just a shame Apple's quality control has waned in recent times.

Someone is a glutton for punishment :)

The only times I've had problems getting something sorted it was Core being awkward. They like to dress themselves up as if they were apple but their customer service generally leaves much to be desired.

I just got an email from Amazon for pre-ordering Leopard:). By the way is MS Office for Mac the same as MS Office for pc i.e. are the menu options and other functions in the same places?

Not really but it is pretty intuitive. Of course that could all change once they release Office '08 sometime in the new year.
