The thing about most Chinese BMSes that I have seen is that they only balance when they reach a voltage fairly close to the full charge voltage. So my main reservation would be that if you go to 13.8V instead of 14.4V, it might not actually get to the point where it decides to balance the cells in series.Yes they are, balancing each cell is very important with lithium.
We're not talking about a bunch of lead acids in series here

I haven't done much testing / playing around I'll admit, but it's something that one would want to figure out before putting into production. Not sure what the Blue Nova batteries do.
