Let's Talk Coolers!

The H70 costs way more, and does not offer a vast improvement in temps. Stick with the H50

agreed, R300 different. You gonna have to get another 120mm fan, but that not gonna cost you R300

I'll go for the H70 - but how loud are those fans HTC? I see on the site it says:
The fans that come with the H70 up the speed of the H50 fan from 1700RPM to max of 2000 RPM.

dude what CPU u got?

a Q6600 (lol) but will be going for a i7 860/870 rig soon.

it's still going strong actually, I just need a better mobo so I might as well get an i7 setup going

lemme know when you get your new cooler and I'll help you out with some tips

im no pro, but I did some seriaaas trial and error with this H50 before I got it 100%

some people set the thing up wrong (even some reviews I've seen, and some ppl on this forum too haha!) and wonder why their temps are all screwy

guess it does also depend a lot on the case setup

can it be mounted horizontally? because i'm thinking of reversing one of my top fans and putting it there?

or maybe even in front below the DVD Drive if the pipes are long enough - the HAFX has loads of space there for it, plus the front plates are all vented

I doubt it can be mounted at the top of your case, I suspect the pump will not enjoy any vertical column of fluid. And it definately will not reach the front of any case

so basically you have to put it by the rear fan? that the only option?

I just wouldnt put it at the top since you'll be putting some extra strain on a already weak pump with very low head. A decent pump has a head of 2-3m, and flowrate of 150+ l/h. The H50 only manages 0.5m head and 50 l/h. So to ensure a long and healthy life I would place everything at the same height, ie reservoir in the rear exhaust slot.

hmmm....but won't that mean hot case air would be blowing over it if it's in front of the exhaust fan?

 While the reservoir is meant to sit in the rear slot (typically set up as exhaust) Corsair does recommend you rather use it as an intake, bringing in cool air. Is that what you were asking?

Ok, so I just flip the fan around.... I guess it will be OK since I have two fans at the top extracting air....

but it's not ideal....

You sure I can't mount it where the drive bays are Archer?
i'm not saying the front of the case, directly next to the front plates, just a little bit back - like under the DVD Drive Sata connections?
because then I could stick a nice fan or two there, and the front of the case is vented too (plus it won't mess up the air circulation)

Well positive pressure inside your case is not a bad thing, its actually preffered if all intake fans have some sort of dust filter. The res may be able to reach something near the front of the case, but you'll most likely have to do a ghetto mod to mount it. Just wait until it arrives and then see whats possible.

I currently have a Corsair H50 which I suspect has given up the ghost. I am looking at getting a TRUE Extreme, the True Spirit mentioned above or the new H70. What is the likelihood of the backplate for the H50 (LGA1366) working with either of these coolers?

I think the backplate should work - i mean, they all usually use screws, and the size SHOULD be the same...... but the H70 comes with ALL the needed backplates iirc? no need to order a new one for your AMD mobo

Edit: oh I see you are not the guy with the AMD Rig, my mistake

Best cooler imo:

Zalman CPNS Extreme, and its the best looking cooler of all, with a nice blue led fan , it uses the normal 4pin fan header on yer mobo too.
AND it has a built in fan speed controller which is really cool....
