Let's talk Gatsbys

Let's talk Gatsby's

I usually get the Salomies at Mohammed's Tikka kebaab. The steak one is excellent except it can be too salty at times.

Stop this talk about salomies! They are far removed from the renowned gatsby! :)

Let's talk Gatsby's

Note to self.

Eat a gatsby next time in Cape Town. Those photos look A LOT nicer than the Wrapitup versions we get here.

Go to Sunrise Chip & Ranch in Mowbray and you'll find a roti gatsby.
Curry, chips, double cheese (or as much as you want) and salad ='d me laying on the grass at Rhodes Memorial halfway into that sucker wanting a crane to lift me up and put me on a flatop to take me home.

My only gripe with Sunrise, is that their curries aren't strong enough - and I've asked for Hot-Hot!

I have had the chicken gatsby there as well as the chip and cheese gatsby. Those "gatsbys" serves 2-3 people and cannot really compare to a real gatsby. Its definitely a great low budget meal though. Iirc the chip and cheese gatsby is R20 and the chicken gatsby was R40.

After seeing this thread I went and got a calamari gatsby from Jo Marlin in Stellenbosch.

I found it quite average :/ Is there any place better nearby? Or is the Durban bunny still the king? :D

The lady ahead of me complained that the Gatsby wasn't as large as usual.

I notice they've used oven baked chips.

Right, my 2cents...

My first gatsby encounter was at 4:00am at GD coming from "you know which place".
Full house Steak, the shizz... really tasty...

Went back there after about 2 - 3 years, had a full house at 4:20am and had half left over.

The next morning my buddy and I got sick just looking and smelling that abomination in the fridge, like "did we really eat that"?
GD's standards have really dropped...

I think the best gatsby I've had was from a place around the corner from Lansdowne Police Station (dont ask).
The chips were fresh, the bread was super soft, the lettuce still crispy, the steak well spiced and generous.

Don't know the name of the place or why it is not more popular. Tables and counters were spotless.
All in all a good meal.
