South African experience

SIR: On Thursday October 1, 2009, the National Chairman of our great party Chief Bisi Akande; the Lagos State Chairman of the Party in Lagos, Chief Dele Ajomale; his wife; the representative of the Governor and my humble self left for South Africa to inaugurate the chapter of our party. Business finished on Saturday October 2 and 3, 2009 in both Pretoria and Johannesburg. We had Sunday October 4 to look around. It was my first visit to South Africa and what I saw stunned me.

Am I in Africa or Europe? Am I in America? Is this another Singapore? Could this be true? Where was Nigeria when South Africa was putting all these structures in place? If the white man did all these in South Africa why were the Nelson Mandelas of this world complaining? If South Africans got their independence on a platter of gold the way Nigeria got hers in 1960, would there have been all these structures I am seeing here today? Impossible! From what I saw on ground in South Africa, it looked as if all the companies and industries all over the world are physically present there. Ah! Nigeria has been left behind. South Africa is the potential and undisputable leader in Africa. Thanks to the white South Africans.

I came to the unhappy conclusion that the mosquitoes that drove the whites away from Nigeria in 1960 did a colossal and unmitigated damage to Nigerians. I again asked myself these questions: How many black Africans did the whites kill before surrendering power to them? How many Nigerians have been killed by Nigerian leaders since they took over power from the whites in 1960? Let us compare the figures. I am sure the supreme prize South Africans paid to have the South Africa I see today will be so infinitesimal compared with what our leaders have killed to remain in power in Nigeria.

What I am saying is that God should have allowed the whites to tarry for at least more 30 years in Nigeria and we would have been better for it. Mandela survived 27 years in prison because the whiteman was a better person. He could not have survived 10 years in prison in Nigeria.

My conclusion after seeing what I saw in South Africa is that the whites left Nigeria in a hurry, and that is why we are suffering today. Had the whites tarried in Nigeria, Nigeria would have been like South Africa today. I want the whites back in Nigeria!

Joe Igbokwe,
Lagos.

It's called leadership?

I don't recall these workers ever being slaves or am I wrong? There where unjust things I will never say there wasn't. But the workers that built these where employed and they did it for a slaray just like you and I. They where never beaten with a wooden stick while building and working. Well in general.

Those Mosquitoes!! Sorry that made me smile!!!

Interesting letter though.

I think he would've been singing a different tune if he was there pre 1990/94

:erm: Sorry mate, no.

Leadership is if you chose/voted the person in/to power.

Also yes sallary yet very few human rights. To act as if another human is worth less because of skin colour and then exploiting them for cheap labour and over working and under paying them is not leading them, it is called oppression.

But let's be honest for a second:

Do you think SA would have been what it is today if there was no Appartheid?
If the ANC was in charge for the last 100 years, do you think SA would have been what it is today?

I've always said that South Africa is where it is today because the Nats hung on just a little bit longer than the rest of the Europeans in Africa.

To the rest of this continent I say: be careful, you might get what you wish for!

Never said it would be.

Let me ask you a question: Think your great grandfather's father thought it was nice of the english to help build SA in those days? Think he still thought it was fair when his wife and 4 children died in the camps in Ceylon?

Now that the black people are exploiting white people you get up in arms, yet a mere 20-30 years ago the situation was reversed and your telling me you had no problem with it? I know how much you love your wife and kids, now lets take all that away, have nightly raids(not the fun WoW kind) after we stick you in some godforsaken grovel to see you having to watch your wife getting raped and your children not educated properly because you are a sub species.

Now lets talk about how all the nice shiny buildings that you broke your back to help build you are not allowed in. Or the schools you built that your children will never see. Maybe the gold you helped mine in sub-humane conditions that you will never share in the riches.

Now tell me for whom this was a better country for.... (no this is not an excuse for the retardedness of the ANC in general since coming to power. Most people in power today I will classify as a sub species of humans.)

And no SA would not have been 50% of the country it is today and no I am not saying the majority of black people are doing a smart thing by alienating the white people BUT have some respect for what the "masses" had to endure to get their freedom.

Most industrialised countries were built on "the bones of others", what makes South Africa, or even Africa, so special? Conditions in Europe and the USA at the turn of the 19th century were horrific, workers were exploited, underpaid, child labour was rampant but the industrial revolution was in full swing. And where are these countries today? Not bitterly begrudging the society they have inherited, I can tell you that.

Just out of interest: my great-grandfather suffered and slaved in the coal mines of England for many years before stowing away on a ship to Africa. Europe was just as bad as Africa, albeit 50 years earlier. White people exploited white people just as badly, but suddenly when it's a different race it becomes even more wrong?

Lets no get all high and mighty, because this continent is no different from Europe in that respect.

:erm: Yes see the problem is we continued this for what another 80 or so years......

Ps are you saying the ends justifies the means? Or are you simply volunteering your family for the "movement"?

Ps we are not talking about the USA or Europe we are talking about africa and in particular South Africa.

It becomes more wrong if people are exploited BECAUSE of their race.

I ask again thing old gramps was happy. Are you happy that gramps died a an exploited man? Shame boo hoo so gran daddy was a little rat down a hole with little imagenation and even less brains..... See how fun it is when we don't think of him as human? Think you will still be so justified if it was your wife that was raped and the police will not even take your case number because you are seen as an animal and not a human being?

Ever been oppresed? Mmmmm I think its a lot easier to sit in your cozy little office and forget about all the wrongs and say but look we have stuff that works.

No I do not believe we would have had such a "working" country if it was not for the white people but saying that it was a slight bump in the road as to how we got here is retarded.

Care to explain that? How can something be 'more' wrong because of another facet. Wrong is wrong, or are some more equal than others too? Poverty and death don't care about race or creed.
