Good day

Afrihost recently announced that it will be shaping its capped accounts as of 1 January 2017. Amidst confusion, they have explained that you can still get unshaped capped data if you "sacrifice" half your data.

All that has happened, if you compare now to around a year ago, is that they have introduced a new capped package which employs shaping in exchange for double data.

So:

Dear Afrihost,

Please, for the love of everything that is good, PLEASE sell these two services (shaped capped and unshaped capped) as separate packages, just as you have done with Home Uncapped and Premium Uncapped.

This will make everything so much easier to understand for consumers.

I hope that this is what you are planning to do.

Regards

You people who moan about AH amaze me. If you can't understand something as clear and simple as the email they sent letting us know of the changes, you have bigger problems.

Bs this whole thing is just marketing gibberish, they go as far as to say you'll virtually never get shaped on the shaped capped product, so what's the point of even stating as much, ie changing the product offering if the chance of it actually being shaped is almost zero. They are capped products for fsk, use your allotment and then it's finished.

The way I see it is, by the time of them having to shape the double data users. The entire network has already gone to ****. No point halving your cap, when both parties are still practically on the same ship.

It makes sense to you, but try explain it to someone who has never had an Internet connection. They had to make a dedicated page for it! Also, Gian's emails don't go to potential customers, only current ones.

In addition, the first thing people looking for an unshaped capped experience will see when looking at Afrihost capped is the word "shaped". It's not an attractive word to put on a premium product, and, yes, if you read on a bit more, you'll see that you can trade in half your data for an unshaped experience, but most people will probably back off immediately.

This is incorrect, if you have double data (ie if you're paying R1 a gig) then you're subject to the shaping right now, not from January, I found out about this while talking to support, he confirmed with his superior to make sure.

This is why I switched to prioritised data this month, while putting through the cancellation. Gonna give vox a go next month.

A promotion ends and everyone is up in arms...

Are you referring to double data or the midnight uncapped? Because the only thing I see people moaning about here are the silly shaping policies.

Bullsh*t. They told me it's only active as off January over the phone as well

It is not just the promotion ending. Before double data and free time etc, x GB of unshaped capped data cost y rands, now x GB of unshaped capped data costs 2y rands - ie double the amount. If it was just a promotion ending then it wouldn't cost double to be back on par with what one had before all these promotions.

No, you were paying for a certain amount of data, and you got a certain amount for free. The cost for the data remains the same. AND you have a choice. No pleasing some people, really, the "outrage" is ridiculous.

EDIT: Although I do agree that the account should revert back to half cap unshaped as it was and let the client choose to double the cap and shape it.

I am NOT referring to the promotions in any way. I am comparing the before promotion price for capped unshaped to the new prices in Jan 2017. My invoices and statements do not lie.
I have gone through the motions of contacting support, the reps etc and I will be paying double for the the same amount of data on unshaped capped. Please look carefully at the costs before saying that there is no pleasing me.
400gb cost R399 (on my statements - prior to promotions) for capped unshaped.
Now it will cost R799 for 400gb capped unshaped.
I have done the math, contacted support etc.
But whatever - not going to argue the point any longer.

Why not drop to a R299 package, and get the 18 hours free on an unshaped package? As has been said, there is no reason to have a big capped package with so much free time. Free time pays for itself, and its an awesome benefit to have.
