I am NOT referring to the promotions in any way. I am comparing the before promotion price for capped unshaped to the new prices in Jan 2017. My invoices and statements do not lie.
I have gone through the motions of contacting support, the reps etc and I will be paying double for the the same amount of data on unshaped capped. Please look carefully at the costs before saying that there is no pleasing me.
400gb cost R399 (on my statements - prior to promotions) for capped unshaped.
Now it will cost R799 for 400gb capped unshaped.
I have done the math, contacted support etc.
But whatever - not going to argue the point any longer.

Before the double data promo, you were paying R399 for 200GB's, doubled to 400GB's, now that has fallen away and is back to R399 for 200GBs, like it was before the promo so I don't know what your issue is, if you still want 400GB's then you have to take the shaped account, this is just the way it is now.

This is correct. You might have previously had Afrihost Plus+ double data on the package before the double data promotion, DonaldMickey?

Using Afrihost + would be a good way to get 400gb and some mobile data etc

Sounds a lot like the old days of having a "local only" adsl account or a normal one, just another marketing spin to get users to pay more for something they already should have.

Good day

Afrihost recently announced that it will be shaping its capped accounts as of 1 January 2017. Amidst confusion, they have explained that you can still get unshaped capped data if you "sacrifice" half your data.

All that has happened, if you compare now to around a year ago, is that they have introduced a new capped package which employs shaping in exchange for double data.

So:

Dear Afrihost,

Please, for the love of everything that is good, PLEASE sell these two services (shaped capped and unshaped capped) as separate packages, just as you have done with Home Uncapped and Premium Uncapped.

This will make everything so much easier to understand for consumers.

I hope that this is what you are planning to do.

Regards

Hi there

Thanks so much for this open letter, we always want to have open conversations with our clients regarding our products and services.

Just to be clear, these are two separate products, and we'll be looking how we can make this as simple as possible for clients signing up or considering product changes. But essentially:

Shaped Capped - cheaper, with potential to be shaped in emergency situations.
Unshaped Capped - more expensive, but NEVER shaped.

We'll be making this more clear on our website and clientzone as we get more user feedback. But this is a way for us to offer cheaper bandwidth to our clients, who don't particularly mind being shaped once in a blue moon. Remember that we also never shape realtime services, so it won't affect streaming (video or audio), gaming, browsing, etc. Only downloads like P2P, etc.

This is not marketing gibberish, many of our competitors have the option to shape capped in their fine print, which is compared with our completely unshaped product from a price perspective, so it's a way for our clients to get more value but know exactly what they are getting in return.

Sounds like people getting either half the data or half the experience, but still paying the same! Afrihost is dissolving more and more into the rest of the market, it just makes it easier for people to move to another ISP.

I'm really sorry to hear you feel that way. :( I like to think that we are offering a wider range of packages for clients to be able to tailor their packages according to their needs. Remember that data can still be doubled with Afrihost Plus+ and we still offer Free-Time on Capped DSL packages. :)

When's this coming to Capped Fibre? It's been promised but no one, and I mean no one, seems to know when. Worse some folk don't seem to think there's a when. Any insights. Please...!
Current offering makes no sense. Capped Fibre R2 less than Home Uncapped. Not sensible without roll-over and free-time. That's where the premium is. That's where the value is in terms of user predictability for AH. Currently paying a premium with no upside.

Unfortunately we don't know when. :( This is a decision that has to be made by our directors. I can assure you when it gets signed off, it will roll out quickly. As it stands, Afrihost Plus+ benefits should become available for Capped Fibre in the next couple of weeks.

Just received word (from CC) that free time currently active for capped fibre. Will line up some downloads tonight and check usage tomorrow. The portal is not updated to reflect the changes. Is apparently being changed.

An update from my test...
Capped data rather than free time data was consumed. CC have escalated this to the dev team. Will post an update when I get one. Hope it's corrected soon.
