I'm seriously thinking of getting this car, and at R342k for the manual its sounds like good value.

153kw is also not bad, I'm willing to sacrifice on power to get all the creature comforts. And the SE is fully loaded, I mean the only option I could possibly add is a sunroof.

Anything comparable from Merc and I would have to take the C200K and load it with extras, and it still works out more than the Lexus.

Anyone had one? Or know someone who had one?

Feedback would be greatly appreciated.:)

Im a German car fan, so my best option will be the Audi 2.0T with the S kit for 340k!

Lexus is good, good resale, solid car, decent looks and off course very luxurious. They solid and as for mileage it will run forever!!:p

Personally I would buy it, but its a good car!;)

The Lexus is a great car ... aint going wrong at all ... my uncle had a IS250Se and he liked it so much that he bought the LS460 .. he had merc and BMW's before ... his sons are getting RS4's so id take it from him if he says it nice then it is bloody nice ...

The A4 is up for replacement this year, so resale value would take a dip.

And here I thought you would be saying it's Jap Cr@p. :D

Sounds good. In fact the only thing "bad" people have to say about it is that it is made by Toyota.

That does it then my minds made up.

I never knew theres a new A4. I know theres a facelift, they getting R8 style lights.

facelift?... JK8 the facelift happened a while ago... the new model is coming out this year/next year..

@ Sox, I'm a huge lexus fan, so normally, I'd say go for it... but there's one thing that's kinda turned me off the IS250. Apparently they all have rattly dashboards - that would be a deal breaker for me.

It's a no brainer really. Wait until this beaut arrives mid 2008, you won't regret it, I promise...

Or get a new C-Class now.

ooooh... You a merc fan bluecollar?

Personally for me merc are totally over rated, they may be one of the most prestigious brands in the world but quite frankly, dynamically their product leaves much to be desired, all grunt and no finesse although the mid range c class is alot more composed then the outgoing model... nah... It's got to be the Audi...

I drove that car for two weeks while I was in Durban last year. I was very impressed. It's a kickass car, really! I drove the automatic version with DVD player (the screen turns into a camera when you put the car in reverse!)

It's rock solid, I didn't experience any rattling of dashboard, etc

This year I'm planning on replacing my cars, (been driving Alfa's for years) I don't really know what to get. I'm thinking new C-Class, but waiting list is a pain in the ass, so the price is inflated. (I can get a 2006 S-Class for the same price!) or maybe new Alfa Spider :D My girlfriend wants me to get a four-door though... :o

In terms of pure brand cachet, I do feel that Merc offers more than Audi/BMW/Lexus. Also the new C is very accomplished dynamically, apparently. My choice would be the C280 for a nice compromise between power and good fuel consumption. My problem with the A4 is that unlike the Merc, Beemer and IS250, the Audi is front wheel drive. If I were buying a compact sports saloon, RWD would be a necessity.

BC : This is why you try get an Audi Quattro... plus I've driven the normal FWD Audi, they're just as dynamic as the RWD competitors...

Agreed.

The new A4 should be available with quattro AWD in the 3.2 petrol and 3.0 diesel model variants.

With the price of petrol I would opt for the diesel, 176kw apparently and buckets of torque and if you live on the reef very little power loss compared with the normally aspirated 3.2... going to be pricey though, like 450k pricey...

342K, New mercs, bmw, audis, alfas ...Good Heavens people, what jobs do you have?

My participation in this thread isn't based on actually being able to afford buying one of these :(

My car cost me R89k... the joys of working for an NGO.

Had I still been unmarried, I would have thought of it, but we planning to have a kid this year some time, so the Volvo C30 must go, and it would not make much sense getting the 1 series coupe.

I've test driven a few, and have not come across that problem, I'll ask the dealership.

The C-class was my first choice, but the C200k start at just under 300k, then add the avantgarde package, which is about 15k. That is just the basics, we have not even gotten to the extras yet. Example, the Command DVD based system of theirs is 20k. The interface is also complicated, that "mouse" controller thing is distracting when driving.

The touch screen based Lexus system is a lot easier.
