LG G4

So I haven't really been following this thread, so this may have been asked before, but anyone know what causes significant battery loss while the phone is idle?

Last night I fully charged my phone, then went to bed. Woke up this morning on 69%. I lost 31% in 7h38m without using the phone at all! When I first got it, it would lose 3-4% throughout the whole night, now its losing 4% per hour!

My battery usage stats show the following:

Phone idle: 53%
Cell standby: 14%
Android OS: 11%
Wi-Fi: 8%
Android System: 6%
Google Play Services: 2%

My screen brightness is set to 40% Auto, which is irrelevant when the screen isn't being used. Location services/NFC/Bluetooth are all off. Plus phone was connected to WiFi the whole night, so it isn't mobile data that's draining the battery.

Is there an app that can give a more specific breakdown of battery usage? "Phone Idle" using 53% isn't a very detailed statistic...

I've rooted my phone with the method I gave here: old post.

It wasn't really because something with the phone was wasn't working; it was just for the minor conveniences you get with root. For me that's Adblock, Greenify and xposed modules. But I agree the phone works pretty much perfectly out-of-the-box, although I disabled the LED notifications as I couldn't find a fix for it randomly going off.

There is an app you can install from xda developers that gives you a more detailed breakdown. Thing is you won't find it on the play store. It was mentioned on in the s4 thread, and I know it worked for me. Just can't remember the name at all. Sorry.

@captain_17 if rooting does not solve the notification problem there really is no point for me.

Side note we got two tempered glass screen protectors yesterday
Finally we can relax a little more.
Now all I need is a flip case with a leather back to keep the phone safe in the SO's handbag...

Just an update, so LG South Africa has eventually contacted me and the service manager that I have delt has told me that the phone cannot be fixed so they will be replacing the phone via Vodacom, unfortunately nothing more could be done, even the approved agents eventually contacted me and admitted they couldn't repair.

Trying to bypass the normal channel's without even trying them first got you in trouble more than anything else. I have had great service from Vodacom repair (granted I'm sure there are a good few legitimate horror stories), pretty sure this would have been resolved chop chop if you'd just taken it in to Vodacom and had them sort it out.

Phones have failures no matter how new or old(and no matter the brand), that's what the warranty is for, hasn't been many if any reports of serious hardware issues on this thread apart from yours.

Took my Note 3 in last week to Vodacom, replaced the main board and screen, took 3 days and that included ordering parts from Jhb.

But that being said I can understand your frustration, hope it all gets sorted out to your satisfaction.
 
Its only with Samsungs that I would suggest taking a faulty phone straight to the OEM as they have official Samsung Care Centres around the country that are usually ready with parts.

Otherwise, its always best to go through the network you got it from, they usually have measures in place to sort out faulty phones....not in the most rapid time, but they are there.
 
Is anyone possible to make a video call using the normal dailer?
 
Car chargers anyone?

I thought these things were universal but it seems the one my sister bought when she had her previous Galaxy S3 only manages to charge the G4 about a percent or two during a hour long drive.

It seems however that LG don't make their own car chargers so I don't know where to begin.
So anyone perhaps have a Takealot link for one that works? Or at least a name I can try and find?

Rather spend a bit more money and get yourself a decent powerbank. You can rather use that in your car. And everywhere else.

Car chargers are not efficient. That's my opinion though.

I have a car charger which I bought, and which was labelled, for my Galaxy S2 back in the day. Still works a charm, and charges my G4 quite fast compared to my S6edge

Just get a car charger that can charge at two amps.

The best that I have seen is a Tom Tom car charger (I have two of those), but they are a bit more expensive.
 
I had a cigarette lighter to USB charger in the car, I changed the USB cable to the one that came in the box and it charged fine.

though I do agree a power bank is a better option.

I don't imagine charging from a powerbank will be all that convenient whilst using the phone for navigation. Thanks for the suggestion though.

That's odd. I wonder what's wrong my sister's then. Perhaps we should just try switching out the USB cable, maybe it's seen better days. Not sure what else to try then beyond purchasing a Energiser universal car charger which may or may not work any better.

Yeah, that's also what she has, so I guess it must be related to that USB cable. Though I'm not sure what to look for when getting a replacement as they are still considered transfer/communication cables more than charge cables.

Either way I've got a spare from my previous Sony, a spare from my previous Galaxy S4 mini, a spare I got with my Logitech G700S mouse and another spare generic one from Energiser (a new one) so hopefully one of those will be be an improvement over whatever she has at the moment. Not sure what I'd be looking for in a new one if those don't pan out.
