LG G4

So would you guys still recommend this phone for the next 2 years? I am upgrading in Feb and the price is just so attractive. I am using a S3 at the moment as my Z2 got stolen last year. Was going to get an iPhone but price and one less iSheep pushed me back to a droid. Not really keen on waiting for another 3-4 months for the next gen of handsets to come out as my S3 is giving me a slew of issues at the moment.

Definitely. I had the S6edge, the G4, and got my Z5 yesterday... the G4 is a winner

Sony phones are real boring, aren't they... :p

Not really... things off the bat I like so far:

- Fingerprint reader is amazingly fast and accurate
- Build quality is superior to any other phone out there

And even though this screen is just 1080p, I can't even tell the difference from the G4.

A finger print reader is on my wish list for the G5. How does the camera compare?

I think we'll definitely get a fingerprint reader on the G5, if you look at whats in the V10... apparently that "dual display" (or whatever its called) as well.

Haven't really played with the camera yet, but first impressions are decent.

Manual mode on the G4 I think will still put it above the Z5

I have been struggling with what has generally been unfixable colour cast in the G4's RAW files, I use Adobe Lightroom, I thought it was perhaps a limitation of the mobile camera.

Finally googled it yesterday and it turns out that LG doesn't supply all the necessary info in the data fields of the RAW files that the native Camera app produces, they left out the data for lens distortion, vignette and something called flat field correction.

Fortunately a few camera apps now produce RAW files with the necessary vignette and flat field correction data included. Camera FV-5 is one such app(and a good very good one too), I tested it and the RAW files are good, though it appears you still need to use the Lens Profile in LR to correct the lens distortion.

To correct existing files, I first use an app mentioned in the link below called Cornerfix, then run the DNG files through the Adobe DNG converter which adds a full sized(specify that in the settings) jpg preview/thumbnail and optimizes the file size(reduces by almost half), then open the DNG in Lightroom and apply the Lens Profile downloaded from the link below. Then the file is good to go, image is as correct as it can be, produces a good base image to do any further edits.

This guy explains much of it and has links to more info and solutions:

Jpeg I converted from a DNG straight out of the G4's native camera app:

Jpeg converted from the same DNG but after the DNG was corrected with Cornerfix:

Why do images uploaded to Mybb not show a preview thumbnail in the thread itself?
You have to click on them to see what the image is all about.

Since about 2 days back, my WIFI speeds on my G4 has been dismal, which doesnt make sense since on my laptop and my partners G Flex, the speed is good as normal. I have restarted my phone, restarted the modem and hoped it was just a temporary thing, but even at work (with faster internet lines) my WIFI speed on the phone remains dismal. Any advice PLEASE?

Clear all cache? I'm not sure what else to suggest with googling for answers

Nope ... no difference. My whole phone is slow now. I took the battery out now as well (read on Google) and "forgot" the wifi network (also on Google) ... I want to hard reset my phone and go back to LP like it was originally out of the box. Starting to think the European MM update is only causing more and more issues.

it is sounding like the MM is your issue.

but there have been a few cases of the WIfi chips failing, and I think there was on in this thread...
guy got his phone replaced if I remember, but it was long ago.
