You are right. Not very accurate, but god damn it looks good... too good.

I actually enjoy the G4 screen where the colours are almost not as "harsh" (if that's the right word) as the S6.
 
Under the Android settings, under Display do you guys have a white balance setting? Or just brightness control and font size\type?

I agree with you, more bang is not always better. The G4 is certainly using more reasonable contrast values but it's almost like it's the other extreme where the contrast is too low affecting differentiation of colours making everything look a bit gray (especially yellows).

If you've got the KDZ file, you should be able to use the LG Flash Tool to update to any compatible ROM.

That unfortunately means that other than manually setting max brightness to get the best possible contrast or using an app to set a higher brightness curve you've got no means of affecting colour reproduction on the G4.

Are you sure you aren't covering the sensor at the top of your phone by accident?

No it'll randomly dim the screen despite the light conditions not changing, I'm not covering or obscuring the ambient light sensor when it happens, nothing will even be close to the sensor. Same light conditions/location I used my Note 2 and 3 in in the past and neither had this happen.
 
Did you check what your brightness gets set to when it lowered it?

My Z3 (well Lux Autobrightness full) also often changes under roughly the same lighting conditions but usually I've tilted it a bit more or less which makes the Lux reading and thus the brightness adjustment different.
 
I've tested the G4 next to a colour corrected IPS LCD computer screen and the colour is very accurate, I just adjust the G4 brightness level until it looked the same as the computer screen, that point was just below half with automatic switched off.

Most accurate display on a phone I have had previously was the Z1 but I reckon the G4 trumps that, either way for me it's enough for a mobile device. Samsung screens are very yellow, in comparison the G4 is much colder, more blue slanted screen tone but according to my test that's what it should look like. Samsung screen tone perhaps easier on the eye but definitely not more colour accurate.
 
Hmm, my sister's G4 seems even colder than my IPS monitor. The Z3 is much closer (after messing with the balances a bit). Yes, Samsung screens are very yellow.

What do you have airborne? I've got the ASUS PB248Q
 
Regularly calibrated Dell, can't remember the model off hand. No G4 will be spot on, suppose if there was a way to calibrate them you could get it spot on but stock is close enough. Anyway a screen is calibrated taking into count the ambient light conditions, if a phone screen was calibrated it would only ever be accurate under that one set of ambient light conditions, that's why at best a mobile display will always be a compromise in terms of colour.
 
I asked the LG guys on facebook when Android 6.0 would be available for SA folks......... they don't know......... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
