because why do you NEED to root? what do you gain? custom launcher? nope do it without rooting. get MM, do it without rooting.

there is no need IMHO to root a g4. I have rooted every other phone I have gotten my hands on, to remove bloat ware or do something you cant do naturally. this phone is already there.

I would love to have TB back to backup app settings and preferences, but I can do without it. Ads bug the living crap out of me though, would like to root to kill ads, but living without root now.
 
I changed contracts when I got my G4 now I have this really weird issue.

I don't get LTE and I don't get CLI. When I got the phone they worked but when my contract switched over to the new month both of these features stopped.
I phoned Vodacom to get them enabled twice and they claim they have been enabled ...


has anyone else had this issue. Its driving me mad. I can't see on the phone that there are settings blocking these things.

That's definitely a network issue. The problem is to get hold of the correct person who can help you.

Yes you can but some system logd process just drains the battery...however if you have root and twrp you can disable it.

Can you confirm that the above works? I'm used to doing technical stuff as I've rooted a locked bootloader HTC phone with S-Off before.

I just want confirmation that they work on the H815P model then I'm good to go.

Edit: Ok now I read that because I'm on 20e Marshmallow. I won't be able to root. Sigh... Its fine tho. Atm I have the phone working fine. 50% with 2hours screen on with max brightness. Just got the notification bug going on...

Root would still be nice, adaway very big one(having an ad free device is just about priceless), and some things like auto disable wifi when away from home/work, disable lock/swipe screen completely when at home etc which can only be achieved with root as far as I can see. Being able to use Titanium again would also be great. But ya, I'm not rooted and it's not the impossible situation it was with Samsung.

well, using smart settings you can get one of those features without root.
you can use face unlock + knock on code and then add to that location based security settings. so you can actually have your phone be swipe to unlock when at home, but as soon as you leave the house the regular lock screen takes over.
this feature works quite well for me. from time to time the face+knock gets a little annoying, as I look at the phone, stat tapping my knock on code, only for it to change to swype after two taps, that then leads me to lock the phone instantly....
 
Baxteen have you tried the down-arrow for the LED problem?

I want lock and swipe disabled, ie lock and unlock with dbl tap or unlock button only and no need to swipe after that. If you use what you have mentioned it does not disable the swipe as well, a little niggle but with root I can overcome that.
 
Interesting. I don't think its worth the trouble of rooting. Maybe later this year I would give it a try

I totally agree, but I have obsessive compulsive rooting disorder. The other reason is I really cant enjoy the battery life and features of marshmallow because of that damn system logd process. The only fix requires root to modify a system file.

Same here. Rooted the One X... Note 3... Now this one I'm pondering over. I feel content atm... But I know the itch will come eventually.

Can anyone confirm the injection method working on 815P?
 
Just to confirm, when I see the 4G icon in the status bar that means the phone is connected to LTE?
 
So after using the 20e MM rom for a week battery life was quite abysmal. I got dik and installed the 10c rom via LGup Tool and then proceeded to root using the Low Effort version together with rizoziso's Youtube tutorial.

It seems daunting but if you follow his steps, which are pretty easy, you'll be fine. Only downside is that you have to stay on 5.1 but in my opinion theres nothing much different in MM.
