Total noob here, so apologies for sounding dumb

I have the LG P500. It's running Froyo (2.2)

It's a bit frustrating because there is some lag on the phone. like when you access the address book / contacts ( probably .3 /. 4 seconds) There is also lag when I play Angry birds. The frame rate stutters ( I downloaded gears and it records my FPS at best 65, avg is around 60). There is also lag when accessing the camera ( probably 2 seconds to enter and 2 to exit)

As you can imagine, it's quite frustrating. Is it possible with rooting and updating my OS that my performance will increase? and If so, how do i do this. Bear in my mind, I know nothing about things like this.

I also believe that LG said that the p500 will get 2.3 but they have not confirmed the date.

any help is appreciated.

thanks

Hi - I have the same phone and the operation on my phone is near instant

I think the amount of free memory is key for smooth operation

Try Android Assistant from the market - this is to manage apps & memory on the phone

Lots of settings and free

Angry birds will stutter, its actually quite a hungry game. Also suffer from the same random lags here and there. Going to try root my phone and OC it a little bit. Maybe even put cyanogenmod on it

I have the same phone. Trust me installing a custom rom will make your LG so enjoyable!!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033653

I recommend this rom. The CPU is automatically tuned to make the phone fast when you use it but idle when you don't to save battery. That rom is superb!! You must try it out.

As a beginner. Do this.

1. Use the app z4root to root your phone
2. Use the app rom manager to install a custom recovery
3. After you done the above follow the very easy installation instructions in the rom thread you are installing.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033653

4. Enjoy a suburb phone with a very awesome rom. Trust me this is the way to go.

Ok so basically you need to partition your sd card step 4.

After you have done that copy the file your downloaded to the sd card and then its just follow the steps. You can mount the sd card in the recovery [mounts and storage> mount USB Storage] or put it in a card reader

K. Will try. Just a quick one. When partitioning the sd, doesn't that mean creating 2 drives letters? And won't the contents on the sd be erased because it will format?

Dont worry about Angry birds lagging, it sometimes stutters on my Desire.

Awesome loving this Rom. Thanks for your help :)

Hmmm, my defy handles it well... although, only after the update to froyo :D. ha ha.

Hmmm, OP, the real problem lies with the phones processor, you can stream line the crap out of it, but it will still struggle to handle android. I don't know why manufacturers release phones with inferior processors?

I installed the custom rom as per the suggestion. It's definately improved my performance, although by overclocking.

Where is the most money made? Mid to low end. Thats why. And its not that its struggles to run basic android, it struggles once you load it out with apps

ok Next Noob question :D

are there custom themes for the rom that I installed? anyone got links and steps :D
