Problem is, only Vodacom brought in the V20, and probably only in limited stock after the flop that was the G5... hopefully this has increased confidence and the next version should see more stock and maybe even other service providers.

Lets hope so. The leaks on the G6 look very interesting
 
Wider screen would be nice. 16:9 is a terrible ratio to read on. 16:10 would be better.
 
Ugh... Not longer please, especially if they're going with 5.7". TechRadar does indicate a nice resolution though and 30% less power hungry which would be nice.

the G5 SE is crap. dont do it.
the normal G5 is a good phone, the only issue people have is the way paint was applied to the body. it makes the phone feel like it is made of plastic not metal. initial reports labeled LG as liars for saying is a metal design but having a plastic body.

I know in the last week Cell C has removed all the G5's from booklets and websites.
guy in the office just got a G5 though FNB connect.

if the V20 is no longer available from vodacom, IMHO you have 2 options, wait for MWC in a few weeks, see what comes out then and if it is worth waiting for that, or get a S7.

personally I would wait. but that is because my contract is only up in June, so its less of a worry for me.

Agree great options lg g6 and the s8 but they will cost alot more than R450 a mnth.

The s7 edge is a awesome device.. Prices should hopefully come down when Samsung unvail the S8 end march

I doubt prices will come down.
the prices only come down about 3 months after local launch.
and I am not sure if anyone else has noticed, but stores are offering fewer and fewer of the older devices when it comes close to launch.
G5's are dissapearing, S6 is nowhere to be found anymore.
I think the networks are ordering smaller and smaller amounts of the flagships so they do not discount them when the new one drops anymore.

Yeah, I'm going to wait. My contract is done and I want to move from Vodacom anyway.

I think I'll go onto prepaid for a while and consider my options then.

That's the best option. I stopped that upgrade hunting a couple of years back. Phones have to last 4-5 years before I do upgrade now.

Why don't you consider non-flagship devices? Or other brands? I was hoping ZTE would bring the Axon 7 into the country, but it seems providers want to push the biggest brand names.

Go dig around BangGood and Gearbest.
Look into Xiaomi, ZTE and others.
It does mean purchasing the phone upfront though. You could put the money you save off contract and put that towards a budget. I found that tough though what with kid's bills killing me every month.

Not sure if the 3S has a fingerprint reader (non negotiable for me)

The 650 is the older midrange processor.
I was interested in the Alcatel Idol 4S which sported the slightly better 652.

I think Redmi is Xiaomi's midrange.
