Liberty SMS - Unauthorized access to IT infrastructure

Sounds like they got hit by WannaCry or one of it's variants.
Absolutely unforgivable if that's the case.

I don't think so though. I'm thinking breach and theft.

/edit and I'm wrong. Sources say ransomware.

But businessTech won't run a story just for clicks saying it was ransomware, surely they have integrity and got the facts first.

Liberty CTO is going to have a really baaad monday.

Im thinking ransomware as it follows the Friday lockout policy...Patch Tuesday....Friday lockout etc, etc.
He's already having a bad weekend

Yes ransomware, contained though

+1

at least they seem to be on it with keeping clients informed in realtime

If it is ransomware then what are their options, I assume backups?

Doesn't sound like ransomware by the way its phrased.

“An external party claims to have seized data from us, has alerted us to potential vulnerabilities in our systems and has requested compensation for this,” stated Liberty.

seizing data (or property / persons) would usually indicate some kind of ransom demand
vulnerability exploitation would often result in lockout or data editing - not usually a seizure of data

i may be totally wrong tho
