No system is impregnable. Provided that a company takes all reasonable measures to safeguard data and communicates breaches honestly and timeously, then it is unfair to publicly flay a company IMHO. The criminals are the perpetrators not whatever company is a victim of their crime.

If they have one client living in the EU (which is highly likely), GDPR applies.

Sure, but you mitigate threats. They stored passwords in plain text. That's a sign of a bigger issue.

My interpretation of MyBB's article is that data was [highlight]copied[/highlight] during this breach at Liberty, there is no suggestion that the data was rendered useless (encrypted) or deleted.

Are Liberty executives seriously expecting the hackers to take the money in exchange for all of their copies without keeping or selling any copies of the data? Surely Liberty executives cannot be that naive.
 
I question the Sunday times source. They've been more than a little sensationalist in the past.
 
Stash app hacked

I haven’t been able to access stash $T# for the last couple of days.

The app on iOS is generally quite buggy.

Contacted their support via Facebook messenger and got the below reply.


Hi

We have been subject to unauthorised access to our IT infrastructure by an external party who requested compensation for it. To protect our customers, we have taken immediate steps to secure our computer systems and investigations are at an advanced stage. You may not be able to access your Stash app in the interim but we expect to restore the services soonest possible. We will keep you updated as appropriate.

Now I have about 18k sitting there that I have saved up over the last year or so. This has me a little worried.

It may be the first time their website is hacked, but if I am not mistaken, about 4-5 years ago a Liberty client database also did the rounds on the streets.

I switched my Retirement Annuity away from them to Discovery.
But our company Provident Fund with Liberty is performing very well.

Yeah the corporate products probably don’t have the crazy costs otherwise your board wouldn’t approve it.

Although I’m not sure going from one insurance company to another is a good move but hope it works out for you.
 
And they DEMANDED my FICA details before paying out some Stash cash.
Told them to get stuffed.
