LibreOffice 5.2 launched for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux

Does the LibreOffice version of Excel also come with all the built-in functions, same as excel?

It comes with some, but there is no excel replacement on the market.

Google Sheets is pretty close for a lot of people IMO. It can do nifty things such as pull in realtime currency data for example.

For sure. I also use Google sheets.

But if you have a crappy internet connection, Sheets is probably not the way to go.

I'm no Excel power user or anything, just thought I'd ask. I'm busy resurrecting an old laptop with Ubuntu and it comes with LibreOffice installed.

Here is a comparison of the major features across the two office suites:

And focussing more on Calc vs Excel:

You will be fine. Excellent product.

I use both, although Excel more frequently. I found that when Excel completely screws up a xlsx document, LO can still open and resurrect it.
LO's solver function is not as robust as Excel's.

LO has the conventional menu system, not ribbons, and it is customisable. Great win in my books.

You can turn on offline access for your entire Google Drive. Offline access is only available in the Google Chrome browser.
1.Connect to the internet.
2.Go to drive.google.com/drive/settings.
3.In the "Offline" section, check the box. It may take a few minutes for the offline access setting to turn on.
