I was recently persuaded to improve life by eliminating my addiction to caffeine. I didn't believe that caffeine was having any kind of effect on my life, but it seems the drug is more powerful than companies like Coca-Cola would have us believe. I Googled caffeine and to my horrer found article upon article on the effects it has on humans.

One example: http://www.relfe.com/caffeine.html

On Monday I began my life without caffeine. Swapped my regular 1-2litre daily consumption of coke with Tab. Removed coffee and tea and replaced with pure peppermint infusion hot drink. And now trying to avoid energy boosting drinks at all costs.

So what's it been like so far? Not much fun at the moment, the biggest hurdle are the headaches and lack of energy painfully reminding me that my body needs its next fix NOW. "Just one sip of that coffee" it tells me and my troubles will be over.
Headache tablets don't seem to work anymore. Despite the brain pain, I will be victorious, so that I can finally find out what life is like without caffeine and the increased levels of stress, anxiety and irritability it brings me.

2 days down and a few more weeks to go! :) Banish the Cola to Hell!

I may put on 50 kg chewing choc bars to beat the addiction by the end of all this, but at least I'll be free from Satan's evil creation. :D

Over a year ago per doctor's orders I gave up coffee/tea, no sugar, no salt, pepper, spices. Makes for a bland eating experience but weight that up against dying.

I sometimes think people tell themselves they are addicted, hence all the withdrawal symptoms.

I consume lots of coffee and coke, purely out of habit. Sometimes on holidays or trips somewhere, for a day or two I dont realise I am not having any caffeine and it has no effect on me.

A while ago I was also told to give up all forms af caffiene, wasn't to bad. I have lots more issues with giving up salt but at least I can a bit now and then

Caffeine can also have positive effects, like anything in life, moderation is key.

Ja there's no way to totally elimnate your intake, it's in a lot of food substances.
I'm particularly interested to see if it reduces my stress and anxiety levels. It would be a great result if it works

Choc bars?

You will have a much bigger problem after a 50 kg weight increase, and what about choc bars, don't they contain caffeine?

Yes choc does, but I was not really being serious, I don't eat much chocolate. Though I've been finding the tub of 'low-fat' ice cream to be my new best friend. I mean it says low fat so it must be good for me!!!:D

Stay tuned. After the break, we look at the dangers of sugar.

My thoughts exactly. Worst part of a 2L Coke is probably not the caffeine, but the half kilogram of sugar in the bottle.

I only drink sugar free coke. So you could tell me I'll get brain cancer from the aspartame sweetener in it.

I live on coffee, always the strongest blend available. I never drink Coke, only when I drink rum&coke, or brandy&coke. On a camping trip, for example, I may have a cup some time during the day, because it is available. It it is not, I'm not missing it. Caffeine affects everyone differently though.
