Light or lamp with a lithium battery

Maybe not charged enough or maybe a cutoff voltage for SLA was reached? Was on charge like 12 hours total. I do not have a volt meter.

Ultratec still going strong (4 hours, as I only switched on at 8:00).

I switched my Ultratec off at 20:00, so went 12 hours without issue. Maybe it has a stronger charger? Might be that the Magnetos will work better with the LiFePOs Park@82 has.

The Ultratec lumens might be lower than the Magneto, but this light is for navigation, not doing sewing and needlework by it.

I have left them on charge and will initiate a test again either Friday night or Saturday morning.
 
I collected 2 of these today (bright green enclosures):


I fitted one in an old model Magneto and the other in an old model Ultratec (as below, the new Ultratecs look like white Magnetos):

The Magneto claims to last 20 hours on the 24 LEDs mode (and 60 hours on 8 LEDs) and the Ultratec claims to last 50 hours on the 24 LEDs mode (and 100 hours on the 4 LED mode). The Magnetos LEDs are definitely brighter.

They are both currently charging and I will switch them both on on Sunday morning at 7:00 on 24 LED mode. Will then check Monday morning at 5:00 how they look, and then again at 5:00 Tuesday morning for the Ultratec.

That battery will never reach full capacity I had one here that had 6 x 18650 unbranded cells inside with a 2s BMS.

It was in one of those emergency lights with the 2 tubes that originally had a 6v 4.5Ah LA in and the guy complained that the light did not last after someone put in the new battery. The charger does not have enough juice to fully charge it so i had to do modify the circuit a bit to get to the correct voltage needed of around 8.4v.

Since the magneto LED's is brighter they will use more power :)

Have you tried charging the Magneto via the 9v port?

I guess I can try my switches old power supply... output is 9V 0.6A.

So it turns out the Magneto with the lithium currently in does not have a 9V input. It's the original model. The newer 4 Magnetos with 9V inputs have their original Magneto branded LA batteries, I put the lithium one in the unit which had a loose replacement battery.

I think you'll get it to charge fuller if you put it into the one with the 9v input. I did a quick test:

Charging via AC I get 7,55v.
Charing via 9v DC I get 8.13v.

The above was measured directly on the terminals without any battery connected.

As mentioned by @x7razor there is a board that steps the voltage down form the 9v port but it's still higher than when charing via AC in my test.

Put it on this morning and it didn't even last 30 min, so yeah, not really charging at all.

Will have to refigure out how to get the battery taped into a unit with the 9v port out.
 
Bump. My OG Magneto died on me, and it looks like the 6v SLA battery is off to battery heaven.

@supersunbird, did you ever figure out a solution to your problem? I wonder if one could modify the charging voltage with a boost converter. Although, with it being charging circuitry and not just a PSU that keeps the battery charged, I am not sure if that would work at all,

I had 2 LAs that I put into 2 of my Magnetos. The lithiums are in 2 of my old Ultratecs and doing well.

Cool. I wonder if it's worth fixing the lantern or replacing. Seems to be around the same price, but I hate e-waste so maybe I'll try make a plan somehow instead of chucking it out.
