Light or lamp with a lithium battery

Noob question. You connected the 2x 6000mAh cells in series right? That means that the voltage is doubled (3.2v x 2) but the mAh rating remains the same, right?

I am now wondering if the mAh rating of the new lithium Magnetos is correct.
They claim: "Huge 10 000mAh Lithium-Ion battery for a more powerful"
"*Consists of two Lithium-Ion batteries at 5000mAh max capacity each"

If these are connected in series would it not be 5000mAh still?

I think you are correct and those are most probably 5000 Chinese mAh's.

They are in series so 6.4v but still 6000mAh.

Wish there was bit more space in the batter compartment to make it 4 cells then it would have been 6.4v 12 000mAh.

There is more than enough space if you cut open the battery compartment to the inside but i like the compartment it still looks fine and if you decide to put a LA :X3: in it will still fit and won't fall around.

I have never had a Lithium model so not sure how they wired it using 3.2v or 6.4v

If they just used 1 cell 3.2v 5000mAh then adding another one in parallel will make 10 000mAh.

How about connecting 3x in series? or do you think 9.6v would stress the electronics a bit?

I guess 6000mAh is good enough though especially if you can charge them quickly.
 
Thanks for this! They didn't even advertise that it is LFP batteries inside. So you have any idea of how fast they re-charge?
The lamp has a dual function LED, red when charging, green when fully charged. I put it on charge when I got it a few days ago, it took about 45 minutes and the LED went green but I didn't check the battery voltage prior so I've no idea what the initial state of charge was.

I've only used it a couple of times (2 x 2-hour blackouts) so far so it will be a while before I can flatten it and check recharge time.

I bought the 6v 5000mah one form electroman. I bought an adjustable charger to charge it via the 9v port instead of going the buck converter route. It does not seem to charge when I set it to 6v or 7.5v. It does start to charge when I set it to 9v. I don't know why this is.
 
It's because of the voltage drop. On that 9v jack input there is a small pcb with some diodes.

With 9v input you get 7.5 volts out so with lower voltages you get even less output. So you can deduct about 1.5v from input voltage then you will get the output voltage. Wanted to modify that pcb a little so it can take any voltage from 9v-32v from the jack.

OK thanks. I did not know about the pcb. I thought you said before that the 9v jack goes directly to the battery and that you would step down form 12v to 7v or something like that.
 
Also found out later about the voltage drop on the jack input I did remove that little pcb before modding :whistling: but wasn't worried since using 9v adapter so it was fine.

I would also not use that USB port for powering sensitive stuff since there is no voltage regulation circuit on that USB port so whatever voltage the battery has is going straight through to the port.

Modded mine a bit more so it can accept max 20v input (12v adapters is easier to get). So i removed that diode and green wire, cut that track off from the rest of the - circuit. Joined those 2 tracks and added pins on the blue spots for the mini 560 module and put green wire on the +output of module.

That green wire goes to the main pcb to some other circuitry but also connects to the battery +.

Yes it has 3 red LEDs on it.

All controlled by the potentiometer they will light up accordingly to whatever voltage you set it at and the state of battery connected.

Charging LED
Normal power on/done charging LED
Constant current LED only on when it is on constant current mode/charge

This one was sort of test to see if it could be changed and how easy otherwise it would have ended in the rubbish bin luckily i was asked if i wanted it.

One thing though is that their lithium one runs form 3.2v instead of 6v so I'm wondering if it is not quite a bit less bright.

I have one each of the lead acid and the lithium models (bought a couple of weeks apart, so batteries in both are still good). The lead acid job is significantly brighter, on both settings. The power to the LEDs is also applied differently: on the LA model, switching to low output powers only the central column of LEDs, where the lithium model powers all LEDs.

You seem to have some kind of electronic engineering background. Can you comment on these kind of plug and play surge protectors? No. The lead acid model is noticeably brighter than the lithium on the respective settings.
