Light or lamp with a lithium battery

LS starting at 18:00 will let it run for the 2 hours to test.

I will measure the pack voltage and check the time before putting it on charge. Then i can see how long it takes to charge up again :)

Right so i just connected a amp/volt meter to make it easier instead of using 2 multimeters.

So this was on charge for almost the whole day except for LS 10:00-12:00 voltage did not go higher.


Taken exactly when power was restored (I switch off our mains breaker so asked wife to switch on so i can take pic) would have liked more output amps :whistling:

(Was on at full brightness mode)

Will see how long it takes to charge might even open it up if it takes to long. Will see if amps can maybe be increased somehow haven't seen the circuitry yet :popcorn:

It dropped quite a bit in 2 hours. Will it even last for 4 hours? What would be the cut off voltage of the bms? Charging at 2w :( It would take almost a day to charge at that rate xD.

Most of the lights don't charge quick enough, especially for Stage 6 and up.

What I do with mine is put them off at 6 in morning and on at 6 in evening, so that during daytime loadshedding they do not run and only charge.

Not sure will let it burn and see if it makes 4 hours and according to the bms specs it's 2.50v per cell.

No wonder they say 16-20 hours for a full charge. I found by changing the resistance of R7 you can increase and decrease the current without changing the voltage. But the HUGE transformer does not have more than the supplied milliamps so out of luck there.


But the 9V dc jack at the back is directly connected to the same wires going to the battery. So whatever amps/volts you input it will go directly to the battery the emergency function still works like it does with normal power.

wow. thank you. some of that "resistance" talk went right over my head (no background in electronics) :p.

So it may be a good idea to charge it via the 9v jack instead? /goes to look for a 7.5v charger/ power supply.

Definitely the jack would give the quickest charge i am also going to use the jack.

Just going to use a cc/cv buck converter since i only have a 2amp 12v charger spare.

To charge with 9v so,so the only issue comes in when the overcharge function kicks in on the BMS it will then cut the power until it's been lowered or removed. Better to keep it at around +- 7.2v - 7.4v

Ok so gave the jack 9v and it gives out 7.95v on battery terminals. (Internal diode on jack pcb dropping voltage a bit)


Using a cc/cv converter i have set the voltage to 7.40v 2amp still using the 9v input. Even with higher input voltage the buck will keep it at 7.40v (might just drop it a tiny bit)

Thanks. I see the one at communica is out of stock. If I use this one with a 12v, 3a charger. Is there any way to limit the current to 2a?

You can use a resistor in line on the + output side.

May be a good idea to power it via a mini ups or power bank in case of prolonged outage.

Yes that will work perfectly for extended periods if needed. Just emergency function will not kick in when on ups have to switch it to manual mode then
 
I have converted my magneto to LiFePo4. I did not buy that pack though I got everything loose and made my own pack.

It now has 2 x 32700 6000mAh A grade cells and a 2s bms vs the std 4Ah LA battery.
Noob question. You connected the 2x 6000mAh cells in series right? That means that the voltage is doubled (3.2v x 2) but the mAh rating remains the same, right?

I am now wondering if the mAh rating of the new lithium Magnetos is correct.
They claim: "Huge 10 000mAh Lithium-Ion battery for a more powerful"
"*Consists of two Lithium-Ion batteries at 5000mAh max capacity each"

If these are connected in series would it not be 5000mAh still?
