No. The lead acid model is noticeably brighter than the lithium on the respective settings.

The lithium version is not as blinding as the LA version, especially the lower setting when you don't need maximum light. I personally like the lithium one, also because of its weight. I use it now much more than the LA one.

It feels much lighter now.

Pros of the upgraded one over the lithium one: Its brighter and it comes on instantly when the power goes out.

Pros of the lithium one: It charges via USB (type C). There is an indicator light to show when it is fully charged.

OK so the lithuim one is brighter on the high setting than the lead acid one on the low setting.
The lead acid unit is brighter than the lithium unit when both are on the low setting.
The lead acid unit is also brighter than the lithium unit when both are on the high setting.
I think the lead acid on low is about as bright as the lithium on high but it's a little tricky to see because of the difference in the number of LEDs that are switched.

At the moment I have enough lanterns, will think about it when the LA's pack up. I use my lithium mostly nowadays as carry lantern and the LA's as stationary ones.

Would have been much more user friendly if the LA had a figure 8 socket instead of the cord.

I collected 2 of these today (bright green enclosures):


I fitted one in an old model Magneto and the other in an old model Ultratec (as below, the new Ultratecs look like white Magnetos):

The Magneto claims to last 20 hours on the 24 LEDs mode (and 60 hours on 8 LEDs) and the Ultratec claims to last 50 hours on the 24 LEDs mode (and 100 hours on the 4 LED mode). The Magnetos LEDs are definitely brighter.

They are both currently charging and I will switch them both on on Sunday morning at 7:00 on 24 LED mode. Will then check Monday morning at 5:00 how they look, and then again at 5:00 Tuesday morning for the Ultratec.

The reason I didn't opt for those is because they aren't LFP / LifePO4.
 
Won't notice any difference. LFP is just safer (when they are punctured or overcharged) and they can generally handle a lot more charge cycles so they should last way longer.
But if buying it in the unenclosed format, would one need to buy a soldering iron and learn how to use it or how would one connect to the system?

How likely is it to overcharge in these lights?

Yeah, the old Ultratech units were like 150 lumens or something ridiculous, still have 2 in the garage that died.

Unenclosed as in individual cells? Yeah you'll need something better than a soldering iron to spot weld contacts onto the batteries.

I just bought the 6v premaid LFP pack form electroman and connected that up.

They are probably not likely to overcharge because there is usually a BMS included that prevents them form excepting charge beyond a certain voltage.

I guess yours probably has 2x 18650 cells connected up inside the enclosure. These are the same type of cells still used in most laptop battery packs so they are safe enough.

I meant yours... how did you connect yours to the light?

I just twisted the wires together and used insulation tape. I still plan on connecting it properly later. I can solder them together or use a small connector block (no soldering).

So the Magneto lasted about 2 hours on full brightness and then went off. The Ultratec still going.
 
Maybe not charged enough or maybe a cutoff voltage for SLA was reached? Was on charge like 12 hours total. I do not have a volt meter.

Ultratec still going strong (4 hours, as I only switched on at 8:00).
The original onboard charging circuit for the lead acid battery does a bulk charge at about 7.2 volts, maybe that's not high enough to charge the lithium batteries?

If the li-ion is 2 x 18650 cells in series the terminating charge voltage should be 8.4v to fully charge them.
