Lights, Water, Internet

Yeah! Give it to us in Centurion to test! We will do it with pleasure... :D

Mmm - I am worried that some municipalities are just going to say "oh - but there is already Telkom for this"

But prehaps it would prompt Telkom to lower prices ....

I just hope that the municipalities do not charge like Telkom ...

May you crash and burn, Telkom.

If this option is viable, I will *definitely* sign up for this, as long as one can enjoy 24x7 Internet at reasonable speeds and pricing without the Telkom factor.

So ironic - Telkom's own narrowmindedness will lose them more income in the long run - for now they're trying to grab as much as they can, to the own detriment of their own future...

Let's see what happens...

Ok, so they don't handle the name thing in a polite and reasonable manner, which makes me sad :(

But they want to give us all broadband (hopefully at cheaper than Telkom prices), which makes me glad :)

To them Centurion folks, nah, they must test it here in Garsfontein first.

Anyway, we all know that Centurion is the ugly redhaired stepchild of Tswane :p , bet you get it last!

@supersunbird: At least we in Centurion can fight the big evil themselves: throw stones at the teklom data center in TechnoPark! :p

Well, I'm sitting here in Groenkloof at the moment, right below that blue lit Lucasrand tower of their's, wonder how much dinamite........ ;)

Icasa councillor Zolisa Masiza says the authority regards public roads as municipal property and will not penalise a municipality for running telecom networks across them
Now this is my man.. I can see why TELKOM is kicking so damn hard. It cannot see the light, they are crying so hard.

This is the beginning of the end of TELKOM and the beginnings of "free" (cheap) local content now that Telkom defrauds us of that right, When SNO opens international broadband to Municipalities the bullet will hit the TELKOM goons.

That's the only problem with this picture at the moment. It will be great to have local bandwidth at decent prices, possibly even free but international is still running through Telkom. Declare the cable a national asset already!

Pretoria has tested already and is now ready to go public and Mr. Masondo's Joburg is still considering to build the network. Do they know what is going on at all in the telcoms arena?

Yeah int will no doubt run through the sat3 cable i think it is , BUT should our useless governmetn finnaly make that cable a national asset , that would nail telkom , hell , i am a gamer and as long as we can get local at a good price it will be a start . This would cause a sharp rise in local local traffic .

Newspapers would take off , why go to the shop when you can read it from your pc ? Order food online from your favourite pizza place , you could create a viable buisness like this dealing with only people inside your municipality , it would increase the amount of local municipal buisnesses , imagine if every muni had a sort of yellow pages host by itself . Great way for companies to get exsposure within their own area , for example www.nelsonmandelametropol.co.za/municipality/yellowpages dont click on that link it is just an example i am trying to make . All local buisness would no doubt pay a small fee , but at least then they will have people in their own area doing buiseness with them , or at least making themselves known to the public in their area .

The possibilties are enormous and with telkom out of it , much of it can be done , have it done over the powerlines , beacuse you need power to run a pc anyway ;) , local calls free ? They are worried about adsl people abusing the service , so too will people who get this , but it is a step forward . Even if it is a case of us just haveing to pay for intl access via the cable , then so be it , will all municipalites be linked together then ? Thus killing telkom even more ? If so , Telkom must be really looking down the barrel of a loaded gun . Just imagine having water/light/internet account on the same page .

Also then we dont have to sit and listen to telkom and their think tank containing the three stooges , if we have a problem we can join the rest of the people toy-toying outside the local muni . Thus local government will become more important as it offers so much more to take note of . I see this as a huge 9 nin nail in the coffin of telkom , why because the goverment will try much harder to keep itself in power , than to keep itself on a sinking ship like telkom.

My thoughts anyway .
